I am not a well trained expert on gas furnace issues, so my advice is worth what you will pay for it.
The furnace fan should continue to run after the burner shuts "off". Normally this would clear any unburned gas and cool any hot spots that would reignite.
Does the fan continue running for a while after burner shuts "off"?
If not, there is a fault to be corrected.
If your furnace does not have a fan, then the after burner pop is possible. There will be gas in the burner mixing tube when the gas valve closes. A hot spot on the burner can reignite that small reserve of gas causing a pop.
Clean the burner tube and burner openings. Accumulated stuff may be hot enough to reignite. Replace any corroded or damaged parts.
Clean exhaust pipe.
The furnace may have a leaky gas valve.
