A/C cover on roof is black

While doing the roof cleaning i put my hand on the black a/c cover and it was super hot. So i have thought to put white reflective tap on the cover. Wondering if any have done that, i think it should not cause any issue to the a/c function. And i question why to put a black cover on the a/c in the first place. Comments?

All of the covers on my rig are black... 3 AC covers, and 3 vent covers. They’ve been up there for 7 years now, with no issues. It’s over 100 degrees here in AZ right now, and I can still cool down my bedroom & garage enough to hang meat in those rooms.

But, that said... if it really bothers you, the tape seems a lot of trouble when you can simply buy & replace your cover with a white one very simply.

Air conditioners cycle the inside air for cooling purposes. None of the cooled air passes through the shroud.

The shroud doesn't do anymore than cover the equipment.

shroud cover is black

Hi all;

I read the responses that the shroud is just a cover, that helped me understand that, I have the same thought about heating up that area under the black shroud and that heat on top will transfer thru the A/C unit. The black looks cleaner then white.. for sure

I have the same wonder of having my slide out room topper be black, would the air space between the slide topper and the top of the slide roof be hotter due to the topper cover being black rather then light or reflective?

When i bought the topper for the slider, I wanted white with the brown/black brackets, I didn't get my wish cause it would look off. Wish I had two trailers side by side and use a termo measure gun to see if the inside roof of the trailer is hotter with a black topper then a white topper. same for the a/c shroud cover area...

oh, I am a civil engineer and can't stop wondering about things like this, wife tells me to chill out... so if you all want to say the difference is null. that will help me find my cold beer and relax some more. Jason

Oh no, you are fine with your quest to see which is hotter. That'll keep you off the streets for a few summers.

Consider this, the Nomads of the Sahara Desert are more seen wearing dark clothing than not.
Native American wore dark skins and still wear long sleeved shirts in the summer months as do the rancheros in Mexico.

Of course we aren't that tough.
