Slow Shower or Tub Drain????

I have cleaned my shower drain for the first time since replacing the Waterless Trap due to not realizing it was not a typical P-Trap and I ran a snake down it. I destroyed the bladder inside the trap and had to replace the trap at about $30. It needs to be cleaned occasionally of hair and soap scum. Not a pleasant job due to the difficulty of reaching the attachmment nuts that must be loosened.
In View 1 I have put numbers to the parts.
#1 is the nut that is attached to the shower strainer. It has a removable rubber washer so don't lose it.
#2 is the elbow that comes with the trap if you have to order a new trap. This is reusable so order the the 1 1/4 inch trap, it's cheaper and fits the trap body which is 1 1/2 inch.
#3 is part of the trap body and the washer is not removable.
#4 is the part that is glued to the outgoing pipe and has a washer that is not removable.

In View 2 you can see the cleaned unit. I didn't take pictures of before cleaning. Not a pleasant site after a year and a half.

1) Loosen nut #1 completely before loosening nut #3 because if you don't you will put stress on nut #1 and make it harder to loosen.
2) Loosen nut #3 and remove #2.
3) Loosen nut #4 and remove and clean trap.

Reassemble in the reverse order making sure that before you tighten nut #4 that the ribbed part of the trap is on the bottom.

I hope this helps in some way for those that want to tackle the job.

I wonder if a fella couldn't fashion an ad hoc cover to fit over the drain in the tub, said cover attached to low pressure air line to blow the sludge away.

No disassembly needed and an easy way to clean the trap.

Hmmm, modify the plunger of a plumber's helper maybe? >)

Plunger or maybe a PVC cap of the appropriate size. Affix a Mason jar lid seal on the lip or something suitable to seal the cap. Drill the cap to fit an air connection of some sort, maybe with a valve to control air flow at the drain.

Just some loose thoughts that floated in my head today. I could go on with this idea
