Remember the Soap Test!

Just getting my rig ready to go and while testing all the systems my wife who was working near the TT complained of a bad smell. Well, that smell was mercaptan, the chemical they put in propane so that you can smell it.
I started to trace back the smell and found, using dish soap and a bit of water, bubbles forming by the knob that screws the propane line onto one of the tanks. Looks like I need a new propane line.

This is just a good reminder that all propane connections should be soap tested before you head out this spring!

My RV shop doesn't like to sell the big black knob connection because he's had many complaints of leaking. He makes my hoses up with the old style connection that needs the wrench to tighten.
We know there's both types out there that work but I'm just sayin'.

Makes you wonder a bit about all of the connections under the enclosed underbelly that you never see and could not get to if you wanted to......I guess that's why they put the propane gas detector so close to the floor....that and propane is heavier than air, so that is where it would collect.

I'm not so much worried about the internal gas connections as they are permanent and when installed correct gasketing is used and torqued to the correct tightness. The real problems are with the removable fittings. I think I agree with Sundancer and will replace with the wrench fittings. There's an added security of thieves needing tools to steal your tanks as well though I have made a padlock and chain for mine.
