Newbie question about water heater

Just bought a used trailer without a manual or much instruction. How do I fire up the water heater? I assume this needs to be done manually? I see the area to light the fridge but nothing for the water heater.

Welcome and congrats on you new purchase.

Shouldn't be to hard to give you information, however, we need more from you.

What is your new trailer? What kind of water heater is it? ETC.

Lots of people here to help, but none of us are mind readers.... LOL

Thanks for the reply. I thought you would be able to see my make/model on my profile. It's a 2003 Dutchmen Sport Lite. I don't have the type of water heater - are you just looking for the brand? I have the camper in the shop after an unfortunate awning incident this weekend, but once I get it back I'll look for the info you need.

Thanks!

I'm not sure when this became the norm, but modern RV water heaters have auto-igniters and are usually turned on/off with a red LED rocker switch located inside the camper. If your unit has both an electric element and a propane burner, there may be two rocker switches (one for electric, one for gas). The campers I have had use the same style and size rocker switch as the water pump on/off switch.

If you can't find a rocker switch, open the outside access panel to the water heater and snap a picture. Post that up there and I'm sure it will get figured out.

My 2004 hybrid was a manual light. Just look outside (most likely in the back) for a vented door, that hwh should be behind that. The directions should be on a plate in plain view. You basically turn a black button to the on/lite position then push straight down to release the propane. You'll need a grill lighter to reach the thermocouple. Oh heck, this is too much work, just watch this This is for a suburban hot water heater. Atwood will be similar, I think the valve to light it will be a little different.
