Leak in Fresh Water Tank- 2008 Dutchmen Denali

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience on how to repair cracks on the fresh water tank? We are going to do a fibreglass patch but struggling to find best way to access the tank. The underbelly is insulated and covered, did you take the whole cover off or cut a hole into where suspected leak is? Does any one have a diagram of where the tanks are located? Newbie here.

Fresh water holding tanks in RV's are usually not fiberglass. Plastic welding usually works, but the leak may be a fitting connected to the tank.

Some people drop part or all of the belly cover. Some cut a flap leaving a hing on the front side of the flap. Seal it after work is complete using high strength all weather tape.

However, the location of a leak and the source of the leak are often not near one another, so at least dropping part of the cover will allow you to find the source.

I had several leaks show up in both my 50 gallon tanks where the installers crushed them during install just enough that they weakened the plastic but not enough to break right away.

We cut notches around the fasteners holding the corrugated plastic in place and pulled enough down then were able to see the leak locations and used a waterproof two part epoxy and actually cut a thick piece of plastic to stick on top of the epoxy to work like a patch.

To close up we just used new self tapping screws right next to the notches we cut around the existing fasteners.

I also suggest not closing up the bottom until you confirm all your repairs are good because odds are you will need another “crack” at the tank again.
