Adding another fresh water tank

Ok so here goes. I have 46 gal fresh and i want more. Can I add another tank under the coach and just tee it off the pick up hose going to the pump. Then cap off the fill port. In theory the should work it might take longer to fill due to the hose being smaller. Give me you thoughts.

I use to have a bumper pull with a 45 gallon fresh tank that would not last a long weekend of dry camping if we had several guest. (I could never convince my oldest daughter that you didn't need to shave your legs to go camping???)

My solution... I bought a 55 gallon plastic drum and when I need extra water I would tote it ratchet strapped to a dolly in the back of the truck. When I ran out of water I could back my truck up to the side of the trailer and tip the drum over on the dolly to gravity feed into the fresh tank.

Don't forget that adding fresh water will probably over fill your grey tanks. I know they sell waste water totes, but I would use a couple of old busted up 7 gallon blue aqua-tainers that I marked with duct tape to drain off my grey tanks and dump at the bathroom/porta-potti.

Primitive... but it worked.

At first blush, your thought of tee-ing the output would tie them together, but the additional tank would try to fill from the bottom. If you cap off the fill, the air could not escape. Try to tee the top end also. Watch your weight and distribution.

Great idea! I wish I had more fresh water when traveling. How do you plan on getting a tank in underneath the coach?
Also, what do you have for a coach?

So if I tacit into the bottom it wont fill? WWon't gravity fill the takes at the same rate even if it's tapped into to bottom. In theory the tanks should balance out as they fill. Am I missing something. I also will put in a shut off valve so I can use it optionally. I think 20 gallons should be enough. That would put me 66gal + 5hot water for a total of 71.

If you tied in at the bottom they should equalize while filling. Size may matter how quick the equalize Shutoffs on both sides. Vent on top tied into the main tank. Also maybe a tee on the Shutoffs for a low point drain.

If you fill both tanks from the bottom, regardless of size, both tanks will rise together, from the same level from the ground. In other words, if one tank's bottom is six inches closer to the ground than the other, that lower tank will fill up to the point where it is even with the bottom of the other, then the two will rise together. Water seeks it's own level. HOWEVER, you have to let air come out of the second tank. If you are filling it from the bottom, the air HAS to be vented out the top.

Great that's what I though. I am going to run the vent back and tie it in with the existing vent.
