No power at Recepticle

I have a 2018 Coleman 1705rb. When I'm not hooked up to shore power I have no power in any Recepticles. Everything else works fine. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I'm new to the camper world so any help would be appreciated

only the 12 volt things work when you are not connected to shore power. IF you have an INVERTER, that would turn your 12volts into 120 volts and you would be running off of your battery (which won't last too long). You probably don't have one of those.

when you say "everything else" what are you referring to?

That makes sense. How hard would it be to add an inverter

Your trailer has separate 12 volt and 110 volt systems and doesn't have an inverter (12v to 110v conversion). Instead it has a converter (110v to 12v conversion). Inverters are for the big rigs with residential refrigerators and such.

If the 12v is working OK and the 110v isn't the first thing I'd check is the circuit breaker panel. Next I'd check the GFCI, which is usually part of an electrical outlet. Mine is in an outlet in the bathroom. Push to reset.

Yes, that is correct. The battery should power the lights, the stove hood fan, ceiling vent fans, furnace blower, stereo, water pump and a couple of control circuits. Everything else including the battery charger is powered up by the shore power. Depending on how and where you camp will determine what you need to do. Your fridge, cook top (possibly oven) furnace and water heater will all work on LP (propane) but some of them have 12 volts (battery power) for the control circuits.

I am going to guess your unit came with a single battery from the dealer, and probably not a very good one. You can probably get 3-4 nights out of it with light use, if you run the furnace much, 1-2 nights max. Then it will be dead and need to be recharged.

If you want to power up a few outlets you will need to add an inverter and more, larger batteries as well as method for recharging them. Probably not worth the cost unless you plan to do a lot of off grid camping.

That makes sense. I do have dual Deka batteries and the briefcase solar panel.

How large are the solar panels? Deka are decent batteries. Do you know which model and size you have? You will not want to drain them below 50% to avoid damaging them.

You will probably want to invest in a decent power meter so you can keep track of them. Trimetric and Victron are both good ones. Currently I use a cheapy that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It gives me a general idea of how much power I have used. I also have the luxury of an on board 4000 watt generator.

Not too bad, a bit light on the solar if you are a heavy power user. Batteries are also a bit on the small side. However with some careful use you can probably handle several days of off grid.
My general recommendation if you are planning going the solar route is BIG batteries 4 of the G105 6 volt Trojan golf cart batteries and around 240 watts of solar is what I would aim for.

However until you figure out what you need and what type of camping you are going to do, "run what ya brung!"

Inverter probably not the answer

An inverter big enough to run your microwave and nothing else would draw about 125 amps from a 12 volt system. That would give you a half hour run time. Your batteries would be dead by then. A small air conditioner would run for even less time.
Dry camping works best when you find alternative solutions to the 120 volts appliances you use at home.

Substitute a 12 volt Fantastic Vent fan, either in the ceiling or free standing, for an air conditioner. Rest quietly during the heat of the day and be active early and late.
Use a stove top percolator instead of a 120 volt electric coffee maker. Propane is a better energy source than batteries.

Gfi

Check to see if you have a GFI receptacle that has been tripped, not just the circuit breaker panel.

That only works if you are hooked up to shore power.

Whether or not you're on shore power, if the 110 side works at all, the GFI can trip. Just push the button on the receptacle.

I believe the OP already acknowledged he was not hooked up to shore power or running a generator so he can reset the GFI all he wants but until he connects a 110 AC source it won’t help.

OP, I am not an expert on your rig but most everything will work on battery other than air conditioning. The trick is being efficient with everything. Turn off lights, water pump when not in use. Consider picking up a small generator to run during the end of day time to top off your batteries.

Then there is no reason to check any of the receptacles until he's plugged in.

In the original post it was stated that they were not hooked up to shore power. Unless you have an inverter or a generator in the circuit you aren't going to have 110.
