My awning "did" the same thing. I found one of the motor to awning roller screws missing which allowed the unit to twist and bounce. That plus lubricating the track/slide helped a lot.
Ours also does not move smoothly. Tried lubricating the slide but that did not fix it. I'll try looking at the motors to see if I am also missing a screw.

With mine I noticed that the motor would wobble as it retracted. It got worse until I figured I best look. Got out a ladder and notice that there were two screws attaching it all together. One screw was missing. Replaced screw and presto ! Fixed.
Two screws seems to be standard as that is my situation as well. I have a wobble even with all (both) of the screws in place. I’m thinking of adding two more so that the connection is more stable. Any thoughts?
I think "some" wobble is ok. But mine was about to fall off..... I added a second screw and the wobble was reduced probably 90%. Then by lubricating the track it all seems good.
Another thing that will make the arms “bounce” is your hydraulic struts. If not lubricated occasionally, they “stick”, and will cause the bounce when extending AND retracting.
