Brand New 2022 Dutchmen Yukon 399ML Battery Questions

Hi all!

My fiancé and I recently took a week long road trip to pick up our brand new 2022 Dutchmen Yukon 5th Wheel. It's the 399ML floorplan if that matters. We're hauling it with an F350. We've had the trailer a grand total of three days, and as I'm sure all of you can guess, we're already confused.

The first night we just found a Cracker Barrel to park at overnight and we had lights on just long enough to set up the slideout in the bedroom, sleep, and put it back after breakfast to get back on the road.

The second night we tried to do the same in a Walmart parking lot and had no lights. The slideouts wouldn't work. Ever since we have no electricity. The leveling panel doesn't even light up anymore. We'll be back to where it will be parked in a campsite tomorrow, and we're wondering if our two marine batteries are shot already?

Do the batteries charge at all off of our truck?

Will everything magically work when we connect to shore power and will the batteries charge then?

Did we just get faulty batteries from the dealer and they need replaced?

Of course any other advice will be appreciated.

150 amp hours of deep draw marine batteries should last more the two nights using just lights.

There is probably a switch near the entry door that disconnects most 12 volt appliances including lights, water pump and other 12 volt things. Sometimes they are easy to accidentally turn "off".

Slides may use a lot of power to extend and retract.
Automatic leveling systems may use lots of power.
Furnace fans uses lots of power.
Inverters use some power when idling and lots of power running 120 volt appliances.

Batteries should get a little charging from the tow vehicle alternator. There may be circuit breakers or fuses on the tow vehicle.

Will everything magically work when we connect to shore power and will the batteries charge then?

That is definitely a good question. Typically the built in battery charger will partially recharge the batteries in two to four hours. A full charge takes 14 to 18 hours. Trailer must be connected to shore power for this to work.

Did we just get faulty batteries from the dealer and they need replaced?

Anything is possible, but it is unlikely both batteries just failed. Most likely the charging system needs a correction.

You can tell if charging from the tow vehicle is working by measuring the voltage on the house battery bank terminals. Voltage should slowly rise to greater than 13.0 volts. Many alternators provide 13.6 volts or more.

It may take 4 hours to put in an 80% charge. Voltage should be above 13.0 volts by then. Shutting down the engine or disconnecting the trailer should cause voltage to drop back to something less than 12.7 volts after a while.

Check truck power at the plug

I would use a test light or voltage meter to check for power at your truck pigtail connection! It should be a 7 way plug. With the truck running you should have power at the connector, use a diagram to see which pin is for power. You will also have pins for lights and brakes, don’t confuse these with the constant power feed. This charges your batteries while on the road and can power your slide-outs, lights, etc. while hooked up with the truck running.
You may have a blown fuse or bad relay in your trucks power distribution box (fuse box) usually under the hood, if you don’t have power at that pin. Hope this helps.

Maybe battery’s not charging?

I have a2015 Silverado 1ton and it has a relay under the truck box, it went bad and could not charge trailer.
Maybe the fords has something similar. My truck threw a code when this happened.
