Stinky Bathroom

Well after going out to the campground this past weekend I was frustrated as to why our bathroom was so smelly. I had to open up the skylight and leave the fan on all weekend so we wouldn't smell it in the camper.
So I thought that someone was using the bathroom and without any chemicals in it that it was bleeding through and stinking, nope finally when I went to the pump out station because I suspected that something was in there and the fact that I had flushed the toilet several times with bleach water. Well I decided maybe its the shower and then it hit me we haven't used the camper for a while and its been blazing hot out, the trap was dried up and allowing the smell to come through the shower drain. As soon as I ran the shower the smell totally went away.
I should have thought about that long before this but was too busy doing other stuff.
anyways it was still a nice weekend of camping!

The seal on the toilet will also go bad after time & allow a stinky bathroom.
Just a couple of weeks ago I had to reseal the one on my 2003 Teton my daughter is living full time in. Seal was worn out plus this brown dried build-up on the flush ball. Gee I wonder what that was

I guess that's one reason to pour a cup of RV anti-seize in the shower drain if the rig is going to sit for a while?

Help me a bit...which seal on the toilet are you talking about?

Thanks,

Pirate

that is a good idea as I am sure it doesn't evaporate as quickly as water will in the trap.

I had that same problem in my Voltage 3895 with the odor coming from the pantry where the washer hook ups are located. I do not have a washer hooked up so that trap does not get used and the water in the trap dries up. The unit came stock with a plastic cap that slid over the drain pipe. I replaced it with a PVC anti-siphon vent cap that I glued on and it eliminated the problem.

Teton has a top of the line Sealand toilet in it. Here's the parts list.

Traveler Toilet Parts - 511, 511+ 911 and 2011 - Environmental Marine Services, Inc.

Item #4. Ordered the parts & got them next day as they are less than a 100 miles from me. Fit was perfect & fixed the problem. Toilet is top of the line & this is the first I've had to do anything to it. Did need to replace the hot water heater in it a couple of months ago. Teton It is 12 years old so items do wear out.
If all RV's were made as well as my Teton, quite a few rv parts houses would be belly-up.
