Interesting. We have had Starlink at home since earlier this year and I always thought about how it could seemingly be a portable solution. We see about 100 mbs download and 2-10 mbs upload.

So why does it cost more and is deprioritized over their other service? Maybe because you can shut it off and on? Otherwise why not get the regular service and equipment?

My guess is because of the wait-list:

Get it now with possible service degradation, or… wait for 12-24 months to get regular service.

The regular service is tied to a service address. But I felt like it seemed quite portable since it just has to have clear access to northern sky. They make statements about how service is not guaranteed if you are not at your service address because you will not have a satellite scheduled to serve you.

I ordered the system but returned it because it would not roam. - too bad - they mentioned that it would be capable of roaming at some point when they got enough satellites up, but I didn’t want to pay 99 bucks a month until then (we have frontier at the house with a gig up next down).
