Slide out or not to slide out?

Currently own a 32’ toy hauler no slide outs. Looking to down size slightly without sacrificing too much interior living space.
Thoughts turned to slide outs.
I just was curious of the benefits, cost adds, pro, cons, etc.
I’ve heard leakage and actuation problems the heard no problems.
I’d like to hear what you all think.

We bought ours because of the great floor space that comes from having a slide. I am certain at some point it will be a maintenance problem but worth it.

I have had several toy haulers but only one with a slide out. I really like the extra room. I have had the Rig for about 10 months no problems yet. I plan on adding a Slide Topper and if I thought it was going to rain I would park the trailer low on the slide side so rain water would run away from the trailer and not into it.

The only con I can think of is on my rig you have to have the slide out if you want to sit in the dinette. So if you stop along the road for lunch you have to run it out. Has not been a problem so far.

Are you thinking of downsizing to a smaller Toy Hauler with a slide? Slides on a Toy Hauler usually mean bigger! Generally a Toy Hauler with a slide will have a enclosed garage, walk around bed your looking at 30"+.....

No questions about it. Go with the slides. I've got 3 in my toyhauler, and knock on wood, no issues in 3 years. Install slide toppers.

We were thinking that now it’s just the two of us and possibly only haul 1 street bike, shorten it up for lighter/easier towing etc.... just don’t want to lose living space

My Aerolite just came back from the dealer with a slide problem. They replaced motor and had to re align the cables. The problem was it would go out about half way and just stop. I had to wait a few seconds to run it again.
All in all though they are worth having for the extra room.

AMEN. One of mine failed at 18 months. Pulled a bracket from the wall.
Waiting on parts now for a $1200 repair job.
DO NOT get one that has cables on large slides such as my 325RL. Cables are probably ok only on bedroom slides.

Double AMEN! large/heavy slides are NOT meant for cables. I have cables on the kitchen/living room side. They have been a source of aggravation and many trips to CW (don't go there!).

I have had 3 trailers and two had slides. Knock on wood, I have never had a problem with the slide outs function or leaks. Personally, I will never get a trailer without them now.

Someone did make a great point that you usually need to slide them out to use the space at all. In my trailer now the sofa and kitchen slides nearly touch the sink island when closed so there is basically no way to use the space unless the slides are out so for a quick stop this adds some planning and time of course but pros far outweigh cons for me.

Thinking it's a matter of luck on the install at factory and having it done by the one guy who knows what he's doing. I have my kitchen on my 3990 Voltage on cable slides (as are my two others). Again, not a stitch of problems (knock on wood again). I am also careful to only extend when level, always fully extend, and do so on 110. Maybe it's my clean lifestyle? LOL.
