If you re-read the thread the hot or cold water blast happens when the shower head switch is pushed. Momentarily shutting off the water to wash and then turn it on again to rinse. If you are running water down the drain to get the right temperature water you must be on hook-ups.

When dry camping/boon-docking we run the water into a Tuper-Ware Pitcher until proper temperature is obtained. We do this in the shower, kitchern sink and bathroom sink. The pitcher is placed in the lower bathroom cabinet and is used a toilet filling/flushing water. Not a drop (except the dripping shower head) is wasted.

Sorry for the mis-understanding. You're right in that DW and I have never boon docked so there has never been a reason to drastically conserve water. We are very frugal and maybe this is one way to expand our camping.
