Roof/303

After applying 303 to my slide gaskets, I went up on the roof and washed and put 303 on it, and everything else that was rubber, vinyl or plastic (less solar panels). Question 1: Does anyone else do that, and does it help? Question 2: I notices a few spot that had bubbles or spot where there was no adhesive holding the rubber to the roof (I think), or do I have water under there? I didn't see any holes and I have no drips. Something to worry about and have it "fixed"? Like what was posted earlier "don't fix anything that works". Thoughts? Thanks.

Yes it will help. As far as the bubbles, push on them, it will be pretty obvious if they have water in them. How large are they? As long as they are under 8"-10" in diameter and there aren't too many of them it should be okay. There is a standard in commercial roofing for how many and how large.

Not more than 10 or so bubbles, none bigger than a quarter, so I guess I have nothing to worry about. Bummer about the 303 on the roof though, as the condensation from the A/C and a bit of rain left some streaks on the side of the RV. Time to wax anyway I guess.

That's not too bad considering. Just keep an eye on them. Typically that is caused by too much glue or not enough. I still have to clean the roof on mine, and the black streaks off the sides.

I use 303 on just about everything, but I haven't used it on the roof.

Only ever saw one camper that had a bubble problem on it's roof. We Were driving east on I90 and saw a camper heading west, he had a bubble right across the front of the rig. Thing must have been 12" high. I'm pretty sure he was going to have to replace the roof in the very near future.

So, if you don't use 303, what do you guys put on your roof and caulking to protect it from the sun? Besides slides, roof is my biggest worry. Actually when I start to worry, I can think about my china bomb tires, deck de-laminating, awning breaking again, etc., etc. I guess I have a lot of things I can worry about. LOL.

As long as you inspect the roof and sealants a couple of times a year and reseal/replace any caulking you should be good to go. The TPO they use on the newer roofs is pretty decent stuff and should last a good 10+ years with minimal worry. The sealants are the crap shoot. They are supposed to last 10+ years, but I have yet to see any go that long. As far as the guy you saw with the roof bowed up while driving, he probably has a bad place in the connection between the front cap and the roof membrane. Eventually it will fail. I have seen some units rolling down the road with huge air bubbles under them. A buddy of mine puts his Go-Pro camera on the roof once a year for a short drive just to make sure everything is good. He found out he had a bad vent cover one year. It wasn't staying completely closed.

I just wash the roof 3-4 times a year and touch up any seams that are showing signs of cracking.
