OEM is probably the best to go with, however, logic dictates most anywhere in the civilized world parts are readily available for most major brand vehicles. If you carry a water pump why not carry an alternator or starter. They are just a likely to go south when you least expect it. I have not personally had a water pump go bad on any of my vehicles in the last 20 years but have replaced a bunch of alternators and starters along with batteries at the worst times.
It's just my opinion and would wait until it goes bad before worrying about carrying one along on trips.

NO... Talking about the 12 volt water pump in the trailer. Those are not as readily available, and I'd rather put a better one in there. I've never carried spare parts for my vehicles except for a quart of oil. Auto parts stores are everywhere and are open 7 days a week into the evenings. Camper stores aren't everywhere nor are they open 7 days or into the evenings.
Given the failure of my AC unit, slideout gear box, etc, the waterpump is probably the next thing to go.
I had a large crowd over a long weekend and didn't notice when the fresh tank ran dry. My 12v water pump failed after being left on without water.
The 7 gallon water containers I use to tie down my 10x20 canopy in the wind, saved the day. I had enough water to hand wash and flush the rest of the day.
After that episode I bought two new 12v water pumps, a replacement and spare. I thought I wanted to replace the OE pump with a high volume one, but someone on another forum pointed out while that would give you better water pressure it would also run your fresh tank out faster.
