mice, should i be concerned?

Should I be overly concerned about mice entering my trailer this winter? I've owned pop up trailers for years, but now that the mrs and I have made the leap to a TT I'm wondering if I have to be as vigilant as in the past?

My brother received so much damage to his Rv when mice broke in one winter. They ate bedding, mattresses, put holes in paneling and chewed through electrical wiring. I keep stations of mouse poison both in and outside the trailer. Now with the risks of hantavirus I'm even more worried over this - Hantavirus - Health -

Mice are a real big problem once they get in your trailer or MH. Very hard to keep out once they get established. Mice are extremely destructive and leave a big mess! Do everything you can to keep them out!

Thanks everyone, I'll use the same precautions I used with my pop ups. I definitely do not want them getting in and causing damage.

Put Bounce Dryer Sheets everywhere, seems to keep them out and makes your camper smell good.

A friend of mine had problems with mice on a trailer he had. He has since gotten a new unit and uses Moth Balls to keep them out. Problem I see with that as it keeps people out also. He says it airs out in a few days but I don't know about that. I always seem to smell that smell. Can't you smell that smell.

I put bounce sheets in my unit along with a baited live trap. The mouse pulled the bounce sheet into the trap and made a nest out of it.

I recently "bombed" my RV with those canisters.

Obviously I only needed 1 for the inside. And since the box came with 3, I let off the other two underneath outside.

They actually came with a nice smell added to them.

It wasn't a mice issue. Instead, I think my TT was shipped with an ant problem. HUGE ants too. Not the kind that are native to my property.

Anyways, man did it work! I came home to DEAD ants everywhere. And I mean everywhere! On the roof, the counters, furniture, shower, and floor. And outside there were dead ants on the astro-turf porch too.

1 day later there were yet a few more. After a couple of days, no more dead ants when I got home and haven't seen a live one yet. I guess it only goes to show these things aren't built nearly as "tight" as a brick and mortar is. So the bomb was very intrusive and effective.

Now, having said all that...........would a mouse be comfortable nesting in an environment that was caustic to insects? And to be honest, it only took a few minutes in a small RV to clean up the mess and wipe everything down. So bombing periodically just might be a reasonable plan?

You don't want them!! They create a mess but when they damage wiring that's when the big problems come.

Leave a cat inside?

You definitely DON'T want mice, they are extremely destructive. I haven't had a mouse problem with an RV in quite a few years. Now about the lizards...
