Add in 325# of passengers and some cargo in the back and I am over my 1560# cargo capacity That is over what I should be towing and trying to stop. At 6000#, my actual trailer weight, the tongue is ~720# plus the above noted additions allowing me to tow comfortably and safely. I firmly believe that the right 1/2 ton truck can safely tow and stop a 6000# trailer. The answer to tow questions is not always get a bigger truck. Math is our friend.

So let me understand this math,
My GMC 1/2 ton towing max is 8k @12% would be 960 tongue wt, max
i thought the tongue wt max was 15%?
@ 8k @15% would be 1,200lbs.
Isn't tongue weight the weight on the tongue from the trailer? my TT is around 900-960 lbs
Isn't payload the weight of passenders, full gas tank and cargo of the truck (800 lbs)
curb weight 4600lbs plus payload of 800 = 5400lbs
Or is max payload max weight truck can be in my case 6k lbs including tougne weight?
I went to the scales and weighed my truck and trailer truck was 5500lbs trailer was 5500 lbs
thats what the HWY weight stiatons or DOT highway patrol officer would do to see if you were over loaded, Right or wrong .
Just trying to under stand this Happy trails
