Fresh Water Storage Tank Leaks

Thought I would share a story regarding my fresh water tanks. My 3305 Voltage has approximately 100 gallons of fresh water storage which is comprised of two 50-gallon tanks with a connection between the two so they essentially function as one.

About a year and a half ago I noticed quite a bit of water dripping from under the RV when my tank was nearly full. I assumed it was probably the connection between the two tanks or possibly the input hose and while it was frustrating I wasn't overly concerned because it would stop after I used some of the water.

Well as it gradually got worse I finally called out my mobile RV guy and he cut back the coroplast while I filled it and he identified the leak. It turns out the installers tightened the brackets that hold the tank in the underbelly so tight that it crushed the plastic holding tank in the rear. Obviously, you would never know this without removing the coroplast because the tanks are hidden. Likely, the crushed tank was okay at first but over time the compressed plastic developed a leak that got worse and worse to the point it became a pretty heavy stream.

His fix was to use water proof two-part epoxy and seal the crack plus to glue another piece of plastic on top to provide additional protection. So after making the repair and letting it dry we decided to leave the underbelly exposed so we could fill it the next day and check the work.

So when refilling the next day I saw more water leaking across the coroplast and out the side. I pulled it back and soon realized this leak was coming from the forward tank. Yes, the assemblers at Dutchmen crushed that one too. (His first repair was holding fine)

I can only imagine if I had removed the crushed tank and installed a new one how much cost and labor would have been involved and then sealed it up only to have to do it again for the forward tank.

He is now coming back in a couple days to fix the front one the same way.

Lastly, my message to the group is if you have a Voltage of similar vintage to mine (2018 I believe made in 2017) you should be aware of this. Not only did the "pros" at Dutchmen crush a fresh water tank during install but they actually crushed a second one--using another set of brackets!
