Talking First “official” trip = success!

No questions, no problems, no concerns ... honestly? Just bragging! I had complete faith in myself from the start (before my trailer purchase) ... but that doesn't make me less proud when things worked out as I expected.

I bought my little trailer so as to be able to extend the radius of fairs, festivals and art shows that I attend with my handmade craft and jewelry business. I’ve had it out on two trips previously, once with help from the husband, once with the husband’s company but no help (it was the solo test). This time it was all me by my lonesome (I am my own best company!)

Lots of firsts were to be had starting with rush hour traffic. I towed the trailer to my office so I could leave right after work. Wanted to leave work about 4:30 and didn’t get out until 5:30, of course. I was nervous driving on our outerbelt with the trailer, but rush hour actually slowed everyone down.

Then a road I previously thought was flat is actually a slight upward grade between Columbus and Newark Ohio. When towing my trailer with my van I’m quite tenderfooted and judge my pace by my RPM instead of my MPH. When I say slight … I mean totally slight. I only noticed it because in town 2k RPM would garner me 60-65MPH … out there 2500 was getting me 50-55MPH.

Then I get to my exit … phew! Whodathunk that a campground named “Hidden Hill Campground” was on an actual hill?
Ups and downs and blind turns (and a deer) … then essentially a single lane (but not one way) road got me to my destination.

Got everything parked and set up then went and set up my booth at the festival grounds, which was only 8 minutes away! Each morning of the festival I relaxed and made myself coffee, eggs with bacon bits and toast (if I had driven back and forth breakfast would’ve been McD’s or Tim Hortons). Made a sandwich for the day (so I would limit myself to one meal/day of festival food … mmmmm fried cheese on a stick).

Yesterday when everything wrapped up it poured rain. I managed to pack up the booth, then go load up the trailer between raindrops and tow it home. Another first … towing in the rain. It wasn’t blowing and storming at that point, luckily.

My husband met me at the storage unit to help me unload the trailer (guess he missed me) and watched as I backed the trailer into its spot almost seamlessly (had to pull forward once to re-position the van). He was impressed (and I am proud of my accomplishment!)

Go me! Next trip is in two weeks. Looking forward to it!

Well done on the solo trip. I'm sure you'll have lots of new first with it.

Excellent!

It should get easier from here, until you get to be like me and start forgetting stuff.
