Electrical question

I'd like to replace an older light fixture that's over the dinette set with a new LED fixture made for 110 residential use. Being LED would it function on a 12 volt system?

Nope, but you might be able to replace the 110 volt AC LED with a 12 volt DC LED or unless the 110 volt has a step down transformer that could be by passed.

no can do.. AC LEDs have different internal demands than DC does. You cannot mix them.. you need a 12 volt LED.

Not really, an LED is an LED, period. An LED will work with most any voltage, it's the current that is the key to operation.

The difference is the addition of a blocking diode to use for AC voltage. Coupled with the correct resister and the diode (to clip one side of the AC cycle therefore making the voltage semi DC), it'll work.

Sundancer,,, I agree with you most anything can be adapted to work with the correct knowledge of electricity and how components work, however, most do not know what size resistor to reduce the voltage nor what a diode bridge is. Given that most LEDs only work in the 6 to 24-volt range DC. Unless you are very astute in electronics E/IxR the best answer to most is it won't work..
AS always you are a wealth of knowledge.. thanks for setting me straight... LOL..

We are removing our Dinette standard bulb light (ceiling mount) and installing the below light with LED 921 Bulbs. It should arrive today and I will install it over the weekend.

It has an On-Off switch on the side and seemed reasonably priced. Best of all my wife liked it better than the first one I purchased
