Did I make a mistake - roadside assistance
I joined Good Sam roadside assistance last night and then read all of the negative reviews about them. I know, did it backwards, should have read first. Does anyone have any experience with them? We used to have AAA for the past 15 years but they failed me when I need them most and let my anger rule my decision by cancelling the membership.

No idea if you made a mistake... depends what you’re expecting from it, and only time will tell.
I have it... thankfully haven’t had to use it yet. But I think most of the time, people fail to read what is and/or what is not covered... or “read into” what they THINK it says... and then expect more than what is actually stated in the paperwork. I know I’ve been guilty of similar behavior in the past, and suspect most others are too.
So read the fine print... read it for EXACTLY what it says, and not what any preconceived notions may make you think it says... and then you’ll hopefully have a good experience with it. At least, that’s what I’m hoping with mine.

Had it, needed it once for blowout on my 5er. Family sat in 115* temp waiting for 4 hours for tire change along interstate in TN. After long wait and about 10 phone calls they finally admitted nobody would come out in heat.
Cancelled policy during last phone call and waited 4 months for refund.
Hope you have better luck with it.

We ended up having 3 flat tires on one trip. The first flat they responded and changed the tire for us, bringing us out a new tire so that we would not have to use the spare. This was in Tennessee. Then on the way back home in North Carolina, we had a second flat and they changed it for us using the spare. About 100 miles later we had another flat and they said that they would not bring a tire out to us. I explained what they did for us in Tennessee and they said that was Tennessee, not North Carolina and that they would not bring a tire out to us. We had to get a tire company to do an emergency after hours call (Sunday afternoon) and that ran us $380.00. Made me mad enough to cancel the membership.
I did read the fine print on Good Sams site and they do everything that I could want but if you read the reviews from Better Business Bureau they are really bad. The main complaint is people having to wait several hours in heat without them ever showing up and then lying and saying that they did not have a record of the call.

Gotta love those China bombs. I had a flat just south of the North Carolina line in South Carolina. AAA came out and changed the tire. No issue. BUT, I found out that they have a supplemental add on for rv’s. I got charged an extra 20 bucks by the tire company but it was worth it.
Just after that, I changed all four tires.

I've been a subscriber to Good Sam Roadside Assistance for about 6 or 8 years. I have had to use them twice in that time period and was satisfied both times. In both cases I was 15 to 30 miles from the nearest towns. It took a little time for the recovery vehicle to show up, but it was not unreasonable, given the circumstances. No cost to me for the tow.

I have had AAA about 12 years now, and they have always responded to any problem. I signed for the RV package and have not been disappointed. When I know I'm traveling far away from home and plan in advance I take advantage of God Sam when on sale. That way I have double coverage. But I have never had to use good Sam and AAA has never failed me. My Dutchman Komfort came with Chinese tires and I soon learned to buy the best tires for my 5th.

No mistake, we have them and they had a tire man to us in 45 minutes on a back road in AR.

We have tried to use our GS roadside assistance twice. The first time, it took them two hours to find someone who could look at our camper within the next week. We limped to a Pilot, and found a mobile tech to fix it right away. We called them back to tell them to disregard.
The second time, they could not find anyone. We called a local RV center to get a recommendation for a local spring shop. After limping 40 miles to the spring shop, GS called us to tell that they still could find no one. Again, I told them to disregard.

We have Good Sam's and while we were on vaction this summer we needed to use them. The people were curtious and responded to our needs. We could complain that they were not timely and cost too much but in our situation we were fifty miles south of Las Vegas. We had a blow out in the middle of nowhere at 4 pm. Considering that, they did send a tow truck out and got us off the road, then the next day they sent out a service man to replace the tire and rim. It was $330, but they had to travel out to us three times and bring the tire and rim. Was that bad? I didn't think so. It was good to be back on the road. They were there when we needed them. I did extend our one year initial membership.
