Show them off, air compressors

I am looking to mount a air compressor on the TH. I was hoping to see what people had added along with any changes you'd make. Would looks to see everyone's along with recommendations. I would need to be able to top off my tires (110#). No need for air tools, so that is not a concern. I appreciate any Insite that is given.

Have you researched what size compressor you'll need to pump 110 psi? The more air pressure needed the bigger the compressor and therefore more weight added to your rig.

Then it's the decision of what's more important, weight or occasional need for air.

I have a portable compressor, it's about 25 pounds and will deliver the needed 80 psi to my tires. However, getting to the 80 psi takes several compressor cycles to eventually reach the 80.

This compressor is rated at a maximum pressure of 125 psi. Sounds good but they must justify the rating inflating something very large.

You want to do 110 psi so you'll need a larger, heavier compressor. Before I dropped the bucks I'd make sure it will deliver the 110 psi without having to wait through several cycles and time.

Sundancer, this is kinda what I was looking into
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002OH...&robot_redir=1

Says 150lbs. The concern for going thru cycles to just top the tires when needed is really why I am asking about this. Curious what really works for everyone. Not really in the marked for a compressor and tank. Sure enough no extra weight is wanted.

I have a Craftsman 'pancake' compressor like this, that I keep in the forward compartment right between the battery & generator:

Sears.com

It's relatively cheap... portable... comes with the a hose & some fittings... and you can dial the regulator to whatever you need.

Even though my Goodyear G614's have a max of 110psi... I usually only run them at 100psi. But then again, my 3200 is a bit lighter than your 3895

I bought a Porter Cable 150psi pancake compressor from a pawn shop that was in good condition. It fits between the generator compartment and the battery also. store the hose above the generator shroud and the inflator and gauge are in the toolbox in the floor of the garage. It inflates my duals and trailer tires with no problem, and it will even blow out the waterlines in the fall. I don't care if it takes a few mins to get to 100psi, it was cheap and lite.

Kobalt 3-Gallon Air Compressor

I looked at a lot of small air compressors and spent hours studying them before I brought the Kobalt from Lowes about 7 months ago. It has served me well. Now that I have the Goodyear G614's I so glad I did not settle for less.
Here it sits in my bay. I like to low squatty style. It rides well in the bay.

I never move the Compressor from the bay. I brought a 50 foot hose and I can reach all the trailer tires and the dually.

I have a nice sized Viair mounted in the truck tool box to supply the air bags, exhaust brake and the train horns

Wired it with a switch to come on at 120 and off at 150psi. More than enough and it is always with me...

Ditto, Viair 444c and 5 gallon tank in toolbox. Trainhorn just because it is so much fun with my teenagers and their friends. 200psi in a 5 gallon tank gives a fair amount of capacity. 50ft hose, 15ft hose and a regulator with qd's to fit to tank if necessary for airtools etc.

Also, the Viair in the truck has bailed me and many others out more times than i can count. Inflating tires, tubes, mattresses, air-ride pin, bikes, etc.

I had a VIAIR in my Jeep years ago, and I'll be doing Viair in my truck with a 5 gal tank. More versatile as it goes where the truck goes, and it keeps the rig free of a bulky compressor.

Looking at the Viair 444c has anyone mounted it under the bed of your truck with a air tank also?

I mounted mine underneath the truck, there is a perfect fit location directly under rear passenger seat (in my crew cab 8' bed). I built a frame and mounted the compressor to a plate that sits in the framework. I can remove the compressor anytime I want in about 3 minutes. I wired it up to a relay controlled by one of my upfitter switches.

I control my airbags manually (not rf remote) from in cab and I even ran a seperate air chuck and mounted it next to my rear trailer power plug for airing up tires and inflatibles for the kids. It will pump up to 150psi but only has a 3 gal tank so it takes awhile to blow up a kids swimming pool.
