My mod

We have a 2013 Aerolite 212RBSL and have found it difficult to access the storage compartment under the foot section of the bed so I made a modification to eliminate lifting the mattress and we will place our clothes bags under it or other "stuff". I cut out the front panels using a hand saw because the wood paneling is only 1/8" thick and then I used scrap oak wood to form a simple frame that is glued in place with gorilla glue. I had cut 1/8" slots in the wood to fit over the paneling and simple dado joints on the ends using a band saw. Then stained it and 3 coats of polyurethane to top it off. I thought about putting doors in place but they would be cumbersome and it is much easier to access items as needed.

Very good idea. I like it. Have you given any thought to a simple custom made curtain of sorts? You could get some fabric to match your decor, use one of those spring tension curtain rods to support the curtain and voila, a place to kick those dirty clothes or other wise hide what you put in there. What do ya think?

That is a good idea! We will be camping in 1 week and see how it works & looks and then think about curtains after we get home. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great idea,
During our last camping trip, we were just talking about under bed storage mods for our 212, I will have to show your pics to the better half to give her an idea of how much easy storage we will gain.

Ya know, me thinks I like the idea also. I may be opening up at least half of the underbed storage area that will allow me to slide those wheeled, covered underbed totes that they sell for regular house beds. There will be a double layer afair because of the depth of our under bed storage area. Anyway going to look at it and give it a try.
