Rememberance Day 11 November

"Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," in accordance with the Armistice, signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919.[1]," from Wikipedia

Take time on the 11th of November to remember.....Lest we forget

On Veteran's Day I salute all of us that served in the military. I do this with a quality cigar and a shot of Jack Daniel's.

sometimes I forget the shot count though

In 1999 I started documenting everything I could find about my uncle Isaac, who was killed on the Hitler Line May 27th, 1944. August 2005 I put a bronze plaque on the lake dedicated to him by the Government of Saskatchewan - located 205 miles North of La Ronge, Saskatchewan. Had a special day in Ottawa on the day his page in the Books of Remembrance was opened. May 27th, 2009 had a graveside service in Caserta, Italy - the 65th anniversary of Isaac's death (age 22). One poppy was placed for each sibling and his parents. Here's his page on the government war memorial website: Isaac Wilhelm Goertzen - The Canadian Virtual War Memorial - Veterans Affairs Canada
Would I do this all again - in a heartbeat.

I usually have just 2 (two) adult beverages. The FIRST one and the LAST one!

I was grateful to have participated in formation for a Remembrance Day event while deployed to Kuwait last year. This was over at the Canadian compound and while it would have been great to have some adult beverages with the Canadians it was enough to have been invited to attend the event. We ended up purchasing a small square Velcro patch with the poppy on it and wore it while flying off station from the base as they disliked any 'moral' patches.
