Beer vs Whisky
As the half century mark of my life has passed, I've started to acquire a taste for whisky. I was a 12 to 18 pack of Bud a day person, after work of course, and it seems I've graduated to a 750ml a day habit of fine whisky. Makers or Bulleit, seems to do the trick. Don't get me wrong, I still like beer, but I'm wondering what has caused my taste to change. In my younger years, I could never drink whisky, I always ended up sick or with a very bad hangover if I strayed from beer. Then, I started getting a groggy feeling from the beer in the morning, and a co worker of mine suggested whisky. Well, to my surprise, I've re-discovered I'm a whisky drinker. I can have several glasses straight, with melted ice as a wash, and when I awaken in the morn, I feel young and rejuvenated. Anyhow, before I get long winded, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and what possibly might be the reason.

I will say, at least you are taking a liking to Bourbon and not plain old whiskey...huge difference in taste.

Who knows for sure...
As long as it says something about pregnant women and not operating machinery on the label I am good to go...
I have always enjoyed beer, booze and wine. However the older I get the more I prefer the expensive stuff. Last bottle of scotch I shelled out for was ~$80 (don't tell my wife ) I love good craft beers, scotch, bourbon, gin, and red wines. Not a heavy consumer, one or two a night makes me happy, but I do enjoy the taste.

After 40 I pretty much quit drinking beer and started drinking the finer Bourbons. May also be due to enjoying finer cigars as well! Nothing like a nice night with a GOOD glass of Bourbon and a fine cigar. I prefer Blanton's and Lock Stock & Barrel, mostly drink Blanton's due to the cost of the other.

As the half century mark of my life has passed, I've started to think about how far I can make it into the second half and cut way back on my drinking. I find your right... a couple of Crown & Cokes go down a lot smoother than a six pack of beer.

I will take my G-Jack over beer anyday. As the years go by, less and less I have.

A nice whiskey that I drink up here in the Great White North is from a small distillery just outside Niagara Falls Ontario is Forty Creeks Barrel Select. Aged 12 yrs, very smooth. Easy drinking.

750ml of whiskey a day??!! That's 25 ounces (or 16 shots) a day. OMG!! Don't take this wrong but when are you ever sober? I love my Jack but not a bottle a day. I sure hope I misread something here.

I guess when you look at that way, it seems like a lot. In my defense, I meant my day's off, not every day. In reality, thats only 5 or 6 glasses, spread out over the day, of course. I don't get falling down drunk, but around dinner time I'm quite relaxed. Now that I think of that, thats where my confusion was......it was a day off

I think our tastes do change as we mature ( I refuse to say 'get older'!). I also used to be a strictly beer guy and seldom have more than one or two a month now. Good red wine? You bet! My favorite end-of-a-day-on-the-road libation. Unless the DW decides she'd like a Foghorn (gin, ginger ale and a splash of lime juice) - a man has to be flexible.
And one or two is usually enough nowadays - takes me too long to get over it if I try to drink like I was 20.

I've never been keen to beer and most wine merely causes a headache. Between Scotch and whiskey, with the occasional hard cider in between, my intake of alcohol is limited in scope and breath.

Goodness, that chart has to be when a person is on vacation or retired. How could a person function "Hold down a job" while consuming that much alcohol. I have a full time job and to many errands to run. Even when I am camping we ride RZR's or dirt bikes so no beer until evening, then all I want is food.....
