Question Recommendations on new tires for a 3 axle toyhauler

We are headed to Alaska at the end of April and we need to upgrade to a better, longer wearing tire. When we bought our 2012 Voltage it had the China bomb Akarts on it. Fortunately for us we did get about 9000 miles on them which is 4000 more than the manufacturer suggests driving on them.
Having 3 axels, does present a little bit of a problem on clearance at the wheel area with some of the tires we have looked at. Does anyone have any suggestions for upgraded tires? We have heard some mixed reviews on Maxxis with a load range of E. Does one prefer a radial as opposed to a bias tire? Trailer tires vs. light truck tires? Anyone using a Karrier? I have been reading many articles over the last week and quite honestly I am undecided. Most articles are written from tire salesmen or tire companies. It would be nice to hear from people that actually have had experiences good or bad. Any suggestions or discussions would be greatly appreciated.

no LT for me. the sidewall worries me.

like most other things in life,, the best thing is also the most expensive. 17.5

next best is the goodyear. I can't remember the name, wanna say its 14ply @ 110psi. for a 16'' wheel. think the last time i priced them $265

i have ben running the maxxis 8008, 10ply, 80 psi. for the last 2 years, no issues at all. i run them because of local feedback, and the price, $140

I only have 2 axles but I went with the Gladiator 235/85R/16, 14 ply rating sidewall G, QR35TR G4, 3750lb weight rating per tire. These are a heavy-heavy well built tire and they are made in China. I paid $190 each mounted on my original rims. The difference between this tire and the original Westlakes that came on the camper is like night and day. I don't know anything about the Karrier brand but you're right about reviews, can't always go by that. I think the best way is to actually put your hands on the tire before you buy it and really check it out.

I am running S637 Sailun's G rated 14 ply. You can also get them in a 16 ply. They are a commercial trailer tire. The sidewalls are about an 1" thick and they are about an 1" taller than stock tires. Speed rated at 75mph.

I have been very happy with them, make sure that you put in a better valve stem.

Recommendations on new tires for a 3 axel toyhauler

Travel roughly 22,000 miles a year with 2,500lbs of cargo. Got 18,000 miles with Westlakes but didn't rotate so rear tires wore more than fronts. Switched to Carlisle F series 12 ply rated tires. 95lbs pressure, speed rated to 75mph and also for trailers that tow nose these stand one inch taller than oem tires. So far 11,000 miles and they look nearly new. I rotate every 5,000 miles. Paid around $170 per

I too run the Sailun G367. The 235-85-16 is rated at 4,080 lbs in a single config. That is plenty of overkill for me.

I have dual axle triple axle I think would try sailun or Carlisle. Replacing rims and such is a lot of bucks. Don't know many folks that put on the mileage I do. Of course some time using not so much has its own set of problems

I went the 17.5" way. New rims & tires. That was back in 2010 on my Teton. After (9) tire failures I wised up & spent the big $$. Gee I wonder how much $$ and grief I would have saved after the first tire failed. I wish I'd switched to 17.5s back then.

Michelin XPS Ribs and you don't have to change rims. Put them on my 3600 when I took delivery of it and have had no problems in 2 years. No need to increase the tire's load carrying capacity, just need to get a quality made tire. Plenty of threads on the subject.

Mike I never intended to disparage Goodyear tires unless they are marathons. Just saying that I am experiencing good results from my Carlisle 12 ply tires without having to change rims. Remember to I have a tandem axle with probably more weight per wheel. Bill
Cheers

I put the XPS Rib on my last 5er after losing 4 tires in one year and they were a very good tire. I went with the 17.5" Continentals on this one.

Bill my Teton has 12,000 lb on the two axles. Well within what the Goodyear G614's 14 ply are rated at 3750 lb. Seems like now maybe after all the failures they have figured out how to make a better tire.

Gus and Spicy, I have 3 axel Toyhauler also and planning to go to Alaska next year, I am going with carlisle tires, I know Bill and he Travels a lot of miles per year, but since your going this year, could you let me know how your trip goes….I heard that the roads are always getting repaired? The road in the lower 50 have been getting BAD everywhere, so maybe it won't be to hard on our RV?

I am in Morgan hill this weekend and our trip down here is very reminiscent of Alaska. Cali roads are much worse than Nevada dirt roads. Lol
