Weighed my 3200 before a trip- disturbing

Dutchman is way off on the posted weights for the 3200. I have a 2013 3200 epic II. Pin weight at 4200 lbs with no toys in the back. I know that will go down with a motorcycle or two. That put total weight of the 3200 at around 17000 lbs. which is 500 lbs over the GVWR. That was with no toys or water in the tanks. One fuel tank was 2/3 full. Anyone else weigh their unit. We were packed for the weekend so we also did not have a lot of stuff. I am glad I weighed it, but sort of wish I had not now.

How exactly did you determine your weights? My 3905 carries a 3465lb pin weight.

This is how I did it- weighed the truck with me, hitch, and half a tank of fuel on a CAT certified scale. Then hooked up the trailer and weighed it on the same scale. Add front and rear axle weights for the truck on both scale sheets and subtract the first from the second and that will be your pin weight. The scale should give you the trailer axle weights. Add that to the pin weight, and that should be total trailer weight.

I know it sounds simple, but it can be tough to interpret the scale sheet correctly. Double check before you panic.

4200LB is alot of pin weight. I really hope they were not off on their estimate by 1800lbs. I have not had a chance to weigh my v3605 yet. That scares me though bc they show a pin weight of 2900lbs for that unit. Has anyone with a 3605 weighed?

Weighed my truck loaded 8440
Hooked up trailer loaded with what I need placed truck on scale separate from rear axels 11,360.
Axels on separate scale 12,100
Total 23,460

I took my 11,360 minus my 8440 equaled 2920 pin weight.
Pin weight 2920 plus axel weight 11,360 = 14,280 trailer weight.

This is not a perfect method but its fairly close. I would like to weigh axels separately the scales I use CAT are not set up right to split the two.

Hope this helps

Go back and re-weigh it and get it right this time. lol

I had acsess to a set of portable certified scales which is what I used. I may have improperly checked my pin weight. I put the scales under the front jacks and took the weight off the truck. When I get home I will double check by weighing the truck unhooked and subtracting the difference when I get back home.

I am willing to bet that your weights will be a LOT different the second time.

I re-weighed to get my proper pin weight which was 3025lbs which sounds more reasonable. When adding the pin and axle weight I come up with a total of just over 16,000 lbs. that does not leave much extra. One motorcycle would put me at the GVWR of 16500lbs. Onyone hauling a garage full of toys and water will be way over. We love the unit but it seems you can't haul much in it if adding the pin weight and axle weight is the proper way to figure the total.
Anyone else find the GVWR is not enough on these trailers

I weighted my 3605 had water tanks 3/4 full, full propane tanks, 15 gal of gas in rear tank, nothing in front tank & nothing in the garage. Axles were at 11,000 & pin was at 3,040 so well with in 16.5k GVWR

That still doesn't sound quite right. My only other suggestion is to take the trailer and truck to a certified CAT scale and get it weighed there, then unhook and weigh the truck. The portables might be out of calibration, or something. Looking at the numbers you have, there should be more load capacity than 500lbs.

The scales are certified and used to weigh commercial vehicles. I weighed everything twice, before I left and when I got back home. All axles were the same or within 100 lbs or so. We only went for the weekend. I don't have any CAT scales near me. I have seen two different dry weights listed for my unit. We have all the extra's so I am sure it is heavier right off the bat. As far as my nose high issue I was looking into 17.5 wheels. Expensive, but I would get a little higher and larger weight rating on the tires although it does not help with the axle rating.

Not sure how yours which is three feet shorter than mine could weight so much more.

I looked on Dutchman's website and the listed weight for your unit 3605 is only about 300 lbs more. You even have a third slide. Does not make sense to me

I have a 2014 3200 model with a GVWR of 16,500. I weighed mine on a CAT scale with fresh water empty, waste tanks empty, 30 gal of fuel, loaded for travel, and had my Yamaha Royal Star which is about 850 lbs in the garage. Pin weight was 2860 and trailer axles were 13,000 so 15,860 was a bit under GVWR.

I wish that it had 10k axles for some more fudge factor.

4wlow there's been a lot of discussion on this and the tire related issues on some of the tire posts. I weighed my 3200 with it full of water, both fuel tanks full, one atv in back. I weighed my truck by itself and then weighed the trailer and weights on each axle. It was 3040 pin weight and 6700 on front axle and 6780 on the back axle. The factory is really off on the weights on these things and it is waaaay easy to overload them. With just a second four wheeler in there it be we'll over 7k on each axle and over 17k on gvw. Laughably there are even larger fuel tanks on the epic 3's.

I know why they put 7k axles on these trailers. I did a little searching about 8k axles and it looks like the weight jump makes the 8k axles cost nearly twice as much as 7k axles. Then comes the extra cost of rims and tires with higher weight ratings. I am looking at going with 17.5 wheels just to have some extra weight room and not have the current tires nearly maxed out constantly.

I wish they'd lighten em up with more aluminum and keep the 7k axles. 17.5's are a good way to go. I went with a g rated tire on the oem wheels. There's a lot
Of discussion on the topic on the "replacing tires" thread.

seems like all the models are exceeding the factory weight sticker. my 2012 3905 epic tips the scales at 17290 empty. doesn't leave much room for toys with 18500 gross allowed weight, especially when a tank of water weighs 1000.

we bought this to haul toys out to the boon docks. looks like Dutchmen was only kidding when they put the garage in, just like they were about "customer service"

You are correct sir. My 2013 allows a gross weight of 19,000 pounds and from what I understand the late 2014 and 2015 are allowing 20,000 pounds. Same damn trailer suspension. We got cheated

Not that the DOT police care but 3x 7K axles = 21K GVW to me. I'm afraid to weigh my setup and really need to weigh in with a full load. I traded up trucks to get a better tow rating then I had on my 2011 by 1600 #'s and still run the same 25K 5iver for a bit of breathing room.

The nearest certified CAT scales would be 150 mile round trip, that's a bunch of burned diesel for a piece of paper , however piece of mind would suit me better I suppose.

I too wish dutchmen/keystone had put in 8K/10K axles.
