Towing with f150

Hi all, I'm getting opinions on towing my 2015 Rubicon 2500 with a 2013 f150. It has ALL the towing features you could ask for plus a 6.2l engine. It's has 373 rear end as well, so please opinions are welcome.

I think you are going to be right on the edge of what the F150 can comfortably handle. Will it tow it? Yes. Will it handle it in an emergency maneuver? Maybe.

A couple of things to consider:

Your towing capacity is reduced by whatever you have in the truck. The tongue weight on the Rubicon is pretty substantial for a 1/2t truck.

My personal rule of thumb is the GVW of the trailer against 75% of the tow capacity of the truck. If it is over by more than a 100# that makes it a nogo for me. If it is very close to the same number I will look a bit closer at the numbers. Some trailers have more cargo carrying capacity than others and that can skew the numbers. With the toy haulers it is very easy to get to max weight because of the liquids that get put on board. Gasoline and water are heavy.

Personally I wouldn't do it.

After going through the headache of checking which truck could pull what, I created a online calculator to help determine if the trailer is within the truck's capacities. Here's a link:
Trailer Towing Calculator

2013 Ford F150 towing capacities

I punched in the following numbers, but please check because only you know the exact specs of your truck.

For the truck...
Curb Weight: 5586
Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight: 11300 (could be smaller if you have 4wd)
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating: 8200 (assuming you have HD payload package)
Gross Combined Weight Rating: 17000
Passenger Weight: 400
Additional Weight: 0

For the trailer...
GVWR: 11000
Unloaded Weight: 7623
Unloaded Hitch Weight: 1145
15% GVWR on hitch

Based on the numbers above, you can technically pull it but you're really close to being over the limit on the combined weight.

+1 Aaron, my '13 F150 has a 11,500 lbs. max tow capacity. That Rubicon will tip the scales at 10,500 lbs. when loaded up and that is too close for comfort. I tow a 4500 lb Trailmanor now and plan on moving up to a 7,000 lb Aerolite, but would not want to tow much more than that. If you're going to get a big toy hauler you'll need a F350 Superduty to tow it safely. JMHO (-:

I tow with a 2014 F150 XL 4x4.
Leveling hitch with sway bar. I too, own a Rubicon 2500.
Now, the truck pulls and stops it fine.
Yes, it is at the max of the limits of the truck.
I have towed winter and summer and have put approximately 15k miles on the trailer. I keep it under 65mph and everything tows fine. Now it is a big parasail, so in wind, it can get busy. But that has more to do with the wind and the profile and weight of the trailer.
IMHO, if you take it easy and be smart about towing, you will be fine.
