To many gas regulators on my 3950
Our 2013 has the factory Camco dual tank gas regulator installed in the curb side compartment with one propane bottle. The second bottle which is on the drivers side has a separate 30# regulator connected to it, and then goes straight into the dual regulator.
It's my understanding you never double regulate a low pressure propane gas line.
Does anyone have any comments about this?
It appears to be factory.
I'm inclined to remove the 30# and let the dual do it's job as designed.
Thoughts?

My 2014 3950 has both and has been flawless. Even after installing a quick disconnect for my grill. I'd leave it alone. Home LP tajks have 2 regulators

donzinger, why would only one bottle have the second regulator on it if it's a good thing?

The single stage regulator on the driver's side bottle is to ensure sufficient pressure to the dual stage regulator. It seems senseless but the thinking is because that bottle is all the way on the the other side whereas the dual is right there at the other tank.
I can't keep the dual regulator working for any length of time so it has been chucked and I regulate the curbside with the driver's side regulator.
I change tanks when necessary and if in cold weather I just make sure there is enough gas to run throughout the night. That's not to say I haven't had to get up to change tanks in the middle of the night but to me that's life.

The only thing I can think of, it's a way of protecting the far bottle gas line as it runs through the length of the front storage compartment.

It is a rubber hose from one to the other so the regulator is needed to reduce the pressure on the hose. If it had a black pipe with a larger diameter and was not rubber it wouldn't be needed.
Also, if it's more than two feet between tanks the regulator is required by propane regulations.

We all know how cheaply our trailers are made. I'm sure that if the factory could have omitted the second regulator they would have to save a buck. Mine sprung a leak when we were in WA. Couldn't find a replacement so I chose to cap the line until we could get home. Found a replacement online.

You are welcome. Some things on these RVs don't make sense. But like AZdryheat said, if they didn't have to add the other regulator, they wouldn't. They have to add a baby fire extinguisher, it doesn't have to actually suppress a real fire. They have to add tires but they don't have to last 10k miles.
It's all compliance, nothing more than that.

Ok Don so where did you install your QD? I'm thinking right after the curb side valve myself or maybe even under the frame by the kitchen slide is a junction block with an extra plug, would be the easiest place. Thoughts?

We did something similar, except our BBQ QD is located where our Notcold refer used to be. I converted to a res fridge and used that abandoned gas line for the BBQ. Works awesome!

I thought about putting a QD in my 3950 but decided that I liked having a 'spare' 20lb cylinder that can also be used for my grill.

Joe, that's what we use our QD for, the grill. With space to precious we didn't want to add another item (cylinder) to store.

Checked with dealer years ago and it's a high pressure regulater fo prevent an explosion in an accident, it is suppose to onlyrelease 30 psi instead of the full pressure in the tank if a line gets cut, something to do with DOT regs...

Also if left tank isn't emptying properly and the left does, then the high press regularly is screwed, they are only mechanical things and they don't always work properly, just replace it before it causes more problems....

All of the previous posts on this topic have been very helpful for me. I did not however notice anyone mention what the specifications were for the regulator on the driver side tank. My driver side regulator developed a LP leak one day that we could smell. We thought it was the tank fitting o-ring leaking. Thankfully we tested all the fittings with soapy water in a spray bottle. (Made sure the neighbor extinguished his cigarette also) Took us about an hour to find the leak. The regulator has a diaphragm bleed hole that is just big enough that spraying soapy water on will not produce bubbles. We had to rub a finger over it to feel the escaping air. Lesson learned. It was even harder to find a replacement regulator. The local propane dealers didn't carry one that met the specification. Ace hardware had an adjustable one that met the specification on the high end so we simply installed it and adjusted it all the way to allow the needed flow. *Always read the specifications and match it. There is a reason for those little numbers! Now our furnace can light again and the stove works again. One less Honey-do! Y'all be careful out there!
