After doing a little research, a chock looks like the way to go. I'm going to load on the right side and maybe try a slight angle so I can at least get in the side door if needed. I'm going to load it Saturday afternoon, so once I get it loaded I will post up some pics.

Wow, really? Ok, I admit I was being somewhat sarcastic when I asked about 'bolted to the floor'. Sorry...

I've had my W/D combo for over 2 years now. It's not bolted to the floor, and it's never moved more than an inch or 2 in all of my travels.

Why are you not mounting it on the left side.

Goldwing loaded and ready to roll tomorrow. I just got it in and the first strap on when the sky opened up with the only shower on radar. Hopefully not an omen of things to come this week!

Wow... I really hate to keep harping, and you're not going to like what I've got to say here.

The locations you've used to tie down the bike are NOT ideal.

First... those seat handles are not made to handle any real stress. They are what they are... grab handles for a passenger. Not an anchor point for tie-downs.

Second... the front & rear crash bars are not engineered for lateral stress. They were engineered to absorb direct impact force only... not sustained lateral load. They may work like that a few times, but don't be surprised to find that you've broken one when you arrive at your destination.

The correct tie-down locations for a Goldwing are around the lower triple-tree in front. And for the rear, around the frame with the side covers removed.

Here's a link with photos:

TYING DOWN A GL 1500 OR GL 1800

I may not have a Voltage, but i've hauled motorcycles all over the place and ATCguy is 100% correct. You'll be lucky not to have a damaged wing when you reach your destination.

Thanks for the heads up. I used the chock and it did 99 percent of the work. The grab handle strap was just barely tight. If it was going over, I wanted to make sure it landed in the trailer and not out of the wall. On the way back I was able hook the front via the triple tree. I did not have any tie straps to get around the frame under the side cover and the hooks were too big to get through. I also have wires strapped to the frame so don't think that is going to work. Made it there and back with no issues. The chock is definitely the way to go.

Just one last little tip. If you didn't do it last time, I take a small strap and strap the front wheel to the chock. That bike isn't going anywhere.
