Tires ??
The tires on my V3600 are date coded 37th week of 2011. I am thinking I need to replace them soon. They are ST235/80R16E.
What is a good tire to replace them with ?
Thanks for the help.

You may just want to search tires on this site. There are as many opinions on tires are there are members of this forum. Some will tell you Light Truck, others will say to stick to trailer tires, some will say Goodyear, Sailun, or other brands, while some will tell you to get new rims and tires and go with 17.5". The only thing I would suggest is tires are not something to scrimp on. No one ever said they bought too good a tire, but plenty of people who wish they would have bought better. Just my opinion.

This is always an interesting topic of discussion. I’ve had failures on Carlisle and Goodyear tires, noting that I’m judicious about tire pressures and loading. I’ve had better service from Goodyear than Carlisle noting that most of my failures were in the 80s and 90s with one Carlisle failure in 2005 though.
Now for the twist. After the suspension repairs on our 3305, the dealer replaced the factory Westlakes with Samson GL285T, ST235/80 R16 load range G. On the sidewall it says they are “re-groovable”. I never heard of them before so a cursory web search revealed Samson makes implement and OTR truck tires, have a nationwide network, and yes they are made from Chineseium. I’m very happy with them, they run cool and show no signs of wear at all.

The load range G is rated for heavier loading then the load range E tires that came with ours. I see many going with load range H on the toy haulers too. There is also a number on the tire called load index which gives you an exact capacity number from charts. My Samsons are load index 128 which equates to 3,968lbs capacity at 105psi.

As Icv800 said you will find thousands of opinions on this topic. Some will tell you to avoid the Chinese tires, while others will tell you to avoid certain manufacturers, I believe that proper maintain of the tire to crucial and poor maintenance is the most likely cause of the average persons tires problems. Proper tire pressure is mandatory, I also replace my tire at 4 years of age regardless of visual condition, these tires sit and sit with little movement year after year, and can cause massive damage if they exploded while travelling down the highway. If it's time to replace your existing tires I would says do your research, I just received my newest tires for my fifth on Wednesday of last week, I currently run Goodyear Marathon, but after doing my research I made the decision to leave Marathon, I spent a long time looking at the new Endurance tire by Goodyear as it is made it the US, but with it just being released this year no one can offer a true opinion of the quality of the tire, after much research I choose to go with the Maxxis M8008 load range E (fifth calls for load range D), I would suggest if your are replacing your existing tires to determine what load range your rig calls for and than go at least one load range higher, because if you do the math the load range most rigs tell you to go with leaves nothing to spare and I believe like Icv800 that you can never have too much tire but its really easy to have to little tire. In the end go with what you determine is the best choice for you and your application. Sorry maybe not the response you were looking for but this is in my opinion the correct response to your question. Best of luck.

If you have a Discount Tire store nearby I'd check out their housebrand, Hartland ST Radial "all-steel" 235/85/16, G-rated, 110 PSI tire. It weighs a hefty 60 lbs. I believe this tire is made by Gladiator. It's N speed rated (87 mph; web site says M which is incorrect) and has a load capacity of 4080 lbs. Our local DT price-matched a similar all-steel tire from Sailun I found online---we got all 4 for $675 out the door.
Got almost 10,000 miles on them with no issues. My research shows failures are rare with any "all-steel" (steel encased tread and sidewalls) G-rated tire from any manufacturer.

I think I have decided on a tire. Please offer opinions .
Hercules, ST235/85R16F. 12 ply, Max load 3,968, inflation pressure 95PSI.
Will my rims support 95PSI ?
Thanks,
SR

The maximum "allowable" inflation pressure for the rim should be stamped on the back of the rim. Usually means you will have to take a wheel off to see the stamp. Depending on the weight on the axles, it may not be necessary to run the tires at maximum inflation pressure. I have "G" rated tires on my Voltage 3200, maximum inflation pressure for the tire is 110 psi at maximum load for the tire, but I normally run them at 90 psi based on my axle weights when loaded.

I was doing some searching and one person said the stock rim on his Dutchman was stamped 110PSI but another said that he could find no stamp at all on his Dutchman rim.
Thanks

I had the same issue. I could not find a pressure rating stamp on the wheels on my Voltage. However I was able to find what appeared to be the identical wheel on etrailer .com, and the information shown for that wheel said it was rated for 110 psi, so that is what I went with.

I've got your trailer and I'm running Michelin XPS RIbs. They aren't that trash made in China but are a commercial grade truck tire. Been three years with them and they are great.
You don't need a higher rated tire just a quality made tire. Even at your max GVWR of 19,000 pounds, you won't have more than 2600 pounds on each tire. The Michelins are rated at 3042 per tire so there is plenty of lee-way. You have triple axles that make this possible, the double axle folks can't do this.

Don't forget to upgrade to a good quality steel valve stem as the rubber ones have limitations on pressures as well.

I am going with the Hercules ST235/85R16F . It's a 12 ply rated @ 3960 @ 95PSI. Cooper is the parent company.
I called Hi-Spec which is the company that made my rims and they said the PSI capacity of the rims is only limited by the valve stem and they install 200 PSI stems. The tire shop where I am getting them installs 120 PSI stems with a metal core so I should be good. Do I need to replace the valve stems the ones in there are metal?

Hmmm, something doesn't quite smell right about that statement. Why would the wheel rating be limited by the valve stem used on the tire? Am I missing something?

The valve stem is used on the wheel not the tire.

Correct on the spec from Hi-Spec. I have the same wheels with the 200psi stems installed.

Oops! I knew that http://www.dutchmenowners.org/forums...es/redface.gif
Still, I think the valve stem is only one factor that determines the PSI rating of the wheel. What about the interface between the rim and the tire bead? Shouldn't that also be a factor in the wheels ability to maintain the pressure?
