Tire Blow Out
I think I got off really easy. I knew my luck wouldn't last though.
2013 Carlisle 235/80/16s with 85 psi at 65MPH. Loud gun shot sound and dragging on the right, so I pulled over with a quickness. Took a whole 15 minutes to change. The damage is just cosmetic and the side doesn't even flop around that much. Needless to say I made it to my destination and back (Chuckwalla Valley Raceway from Vegas) on a hopes and dreams.
Discount Tire is crediting me the cost of the Carlisles towards G614s
Insurance claim soon to follow, we'll see...The damage may have been a lot worse if the tire was more substantial, but there's not much to the China Bombs...

I'm glad to see that it didn't cause a bad accident or severe damage to the rig. As you say you got off easy.
Question: do you have a Tire Pressure Monitor System? If so, did it give any indication of impending tire failure?

And that's why some of us paid the price to upgrade to 17.5s Happy to see that there wasn't any major damage.

No TPM. I had a feeling my luck was out when I was checking pressure and packing up before I headed out.

I had one of the China bombs blow on the same location of yours. Luckily the damage was minimal so didn't file a claim. I have since went with the Sailun S637 and love them. Much more stable and have more peace of mind. At $600 delivered for all four from Simpletire.com, I feel they were a great value and no more worries.

How heavy were you? Doubt it was overloaded. I bought a 2014 3305 used and think I better upgrade and was thinking Sailun due to price. Still researching.

You were very lucky with that blow out. Except for the tire that lost only the tread, all of my blow-out left no casing left.

Smart move
Put the OEM tires & wheels on craigslist. You should be able to sell them there.

I moved my 17.5 from my Teton to my Voltage. The OEM Voltage one's went back on my Teton. Teton doesn't get towed. My inlaws are using it for the winter.
I would ask $750 for all four. You can always come down from there.

It has nothing to do with luck. Sorry that some folks have missed all the threads/posts about dumping their Chinese bombs ASAP. That's too bad as it's just a matter of time till they explode, damage your trailer and possibly ruin a trip.
I run Michelin truck tires (XPS Ribs) on my Voltage and blowouts are something I don't concern myself with. We just got back from Florida and, again, had an event-free trip. In four years of running LT tires I have not had a single tire incident.
Oh, and it has nothing to do with running higher rated tires/rims; it's all about the quality of the tire and LT tires have that quality.

azdryheat. What size tire are you running in the LT. Most LT tires don't get the the weight rating. Is that an issue or no? Just trying to learn. I believe my stock tires are 3550lb a piece.

When I did the math before I upgraded to 17.5s I figured I was within 400 lbs of maximum with the OEM tires if I was at max gross on my 3305 After the upgrade I haven't even had to think about tires....

I also have the 3600. I'd be interested to know what xps ribs size you are running on it?

My Ribs are LT235/85R16/E with a 3,042 load rating. Michelin bills the Ribs as a commercial truck tire but also says they work well on trailers.
I have 3 axles and the GVWR of my V-3600 is 19,000. I had it weighed and with a normal load without my Harley in the back it weighs 16,500 total and 3,500 of that is on the pin. With my Harley in the back the pin will be slightly less but I haven't yet weighed it in that configuration.
Anyway, doing the math, lets say I max out the trailer with toys and keep the 3,500 pin weight as the toys would be in the back. 19,000-3,500 leaves 15,500 on the 3 axles. 15,000/6 tires is 2,583 pounds per tire, which is well under the 3,042 rating of the XPS Rib tire. Keep in mind that the Ribs seem to only work on the triple axle trailers.
Doing the math for a double axle trailer, like a V-3200 requires a much higher rated tire and the Ribs won't work. Assume a 16,500 GVWR for the V-3200 and 3,000 on the pin, which leaves 13,500 on the two axles. Dividing that weight among 4 tires shows 3,375 pounds per tire, well above the tire's load rating. In this case I'd be looking at moving up to a higher rated tire but definitely not one made in China.

My next set of RV tires for my toy hauler will be Goodyear "G" rated 14 ply tires. No exceptions! They are pricey but they don't blow out!
FYI, never run your RV tires more than 5 years, your just running on borrowed time!
Thanks
Rob

I beg to differ with you. I had six of those fail between 2005 & 2010. One spit the tread off & all others blew-out.
I went to 17.5 & no more problems
