I don't see the concern of 'baking' your batteries if they are protected by the charge controller and the control circuit of the converter. Either one will should keep the batteries from being over charged.

I've never felt strong about the stock converters, that's what is disconnected.

I did the jack antenna last year. The biggest part of the job is getting the lap sealant removed.

I figured there had to be an easier way to remove the lap sealer than to try and scarp and peal it off. I got my heat gun, put on the nozzle that deflects the air at a 90 degree angle and used the low setting. The lap sealer came of like butter, but I can't stress strongly enough that you must use care with the heat and not apply it directly on the roof membrane.

Being as I was replacing a Wingard it used the Jack base plate, it made for a nice clean install and covered all of the Winegard screw holes.

Agree with hddecker - there is also an adapter plate available from King Controls to ensure you cover all your existnig holes (I didn't need it on either of the two installs I have done). Also you will more than likely need to enlarge the hole inside your rig for the new antenna. All in all very easy install - takes about an hour or so.

Two of my panels are 85 watt that I removed from my last rig and I cannot recall the brand on them, but I have had them for about 4 years. The other two are 100 watt Grape Solar. Just ensure that they are the same for compatibility. I am using poly units as opposed to mono... very easy to connect using MC4 connectors with a set of "Y's" with the MC4 connectors on them to parallel connect them. Total of 370 watts. Over the last weekend at the race track, I saw as high as 25.3 Amp from my charge controller.

The Grape Solar ones I found on Home Depot website and went with them - good price after military discount, great reviews and shipped really fast.

Shore power cord fix

This one has been buggin' for awhile now so I decided to tackle the problem. The problem being, the person that wired the 50 amp twist connect cut the cable insulation a little too long causing the cable to pull out of the connector thereby exposing the insides and wires to the elements.

The before pix shows the insulation hanging out of the connector along with the threads that are supposed to give the jacket additional strength.

The after pic show the strain relief supporting the heavy cable and the closure of the connector and with the tape the elements will stay outside where they belong.

I bought one of these due to the same problems Sundancer had with his cord. The new connector works great.

This is what we've done to our Voltage 3200 to add more storage space to the living area. Got rid of the 2 middle recliner sections and replaced them with a console section. Added two 3 drawer night stands for storage and table surface. Also added the microwave rack on wheels. It gets strapped to the sink cabinets when on the road.

This is OK, but not our final solution. I'm working on other ideas and will post updates when I get it all done.

We've added the cabinet in the bathroom over the toilet. It was purchased at "Bed Bath and Beyond" for about $100. We also added cup/toothbrush holders and towel hanger and TP holder in the bathroom and a set of hooks in the bedroom under the TV. To put the hooks up in the bedroom I had to remove the bathroom door and put a couple of pieces of wood in the wall to screw into. It's a little tricky, but not impossible.

DR Buck,

Hmmm...see you added nightstands for more storage.

Well...we've only had our trailer out once...so don't think I look that dumb...but we just found out there are storage drawers under the dinette benches in our 3800!

I found them...but I only get one for my stuff. I thought for sure if I found them, I would get to keep them. But noooo....wife, er BOSS, said she gets one. Sigh...LOL!!!

Don't you have another drawer under the couch end of the arrangement? Down there where the air mattress would fit, near the stairs.

Could be the 3800 is a little different between the year models though.

Sundancer,

The 3800 has two recliners with the console between, at the front end of the big slide.

The other section is a dinette table with a bench on either side. Both of the benches run crosswise of the slide.

That was one reason we chose the 3800. Two recliners, one for each of us, and the dinette table is where I set up my laptop, hot spot, GPSs & chargers, GoPro cameras and chargers...all that stuff! This way I can watch TV in the evening while doing all the other stuff I do at the end of the day!!

I was amazed that only Voltage Epic with the 14ft garage, that had the dinette was the 3800...so we ordered it!
