Rubicon 2900 Gas Gauge for generator

Can anyone shed some light on how the gauge works? We put about 3-5 gallons of gas in the tank the last time we camped (2 weeks ago) - it read empty - thought maybe we didn't put enough in, ran the genny for about 45 minutes total and tonight put in 7 gallons and it still read empty! Any suggestions????
Leaving on vaca on Wednesday and would like to know how much fuel we have in the tank, as we will be running the generator the better part of the 1st week we are out (no electric) and we want to make sure we don't run out!

Thanks!

I assume it is the lights on the panel. These lights seem to be an issue on every RV. At least the ones I owned. Mine does the same thing as yours. Only it always reads 3/4. I have decided to just keep track of the hours to know when to add fuel. I do the same thing with the motorcycle only use miles. The deal would have to cut the bottom liner to look at the issue and I'm not going to do that.

No we don't have a panel or light inside the TH I'm referring to the gauge by the fill outside the TH. It reads empty with 10 or 12 gallons of gas.
