Rear camera on 3605

All:
I purchased a rear wireless camera for my 2016 3605. Does anyone know if there is a 12 volt "hot" stub somewhere in the rear of the unit? I could wire to the park lights. However, I don't want to turn on park lights to power up when needed. Raining here in Missouri and going to tackle in the shop tomorrow. Thanks for your advise.

Which camera system did you go with? I have the ASA Electronics unit that came with my rig and it has died twice now. First time replaced under warranty and now ASA won't cover it the second time even though it failed within a year of the replacement install claiming the warranty period is only from the initial purchased date - a load of crap if you ask me...I guess though that is what can be expected from the same company that produces Jensen audio equipment.

Todd,

If none previously installed, I would tap off the running lights, which would allow for for actual on/off for the camera. My factory camera is on all the time, which is not good if I go boon-docking or have it stored for a few days...

Don,
That warranty timing is fairly common for these types of consumables...I had an iPhone replaced by the Apple Store a couple years ago, they made it a point to tell me my warranty was only good until the end of the original factory warranty...

Anyone doing that with their warranty is just screaming that they don't trust or have faith in their own product. New device - new warranty. Sad

I bought it through my local John Deere dealer. It's made by "top dawg electronics" Using this brand now on some equipment with no issues. Warranty "WON'T" be any problem. I will wire up to the park lights. Thanks for the advice!

Since you have to run wire anyway, I would run it all the way up to the junction box at your hitch and hook it to the backup light wire from your embilical cord.

For what it's worth, I installed a relay inside the storage compartment and connected it to the yellow wire in the junction box from the round seven plug, the reverse lights.

I connected the N/O contacts across the switch that controls the lights on the rear of the coach, the ones up high above the ramp door for back up lights.

I've considered using that to power up a back up camera in the future, that is if this thing doesn't fall apart on the road before I get to it.

Y'all suggest wring to the back up lights...why would you not want it while riding down the road? I like the extra security of seeing that the tail of the trailer is in fact clear of the little Kamikaze car that I just passed.

Depending on the refresh rate of the monitor one may not always have a solid clear visual on the rear while rolling down the road. Wireless signals are subject to all sorts of interference while traveling 70 mph.

When mine was working it was great having it on all the time. There were periods it would lose signal but for very short periods of time. Definitely would like another one but will NEVER have another ASA / Jensen product
