Razor Blade Edge Wheel Cowlings

I'm wondering if anyone has changed out the sheet aluminum wheel cowlings on their unit and if so, what did you come up with? I have now, for the second time slipped off the lug wrench and sliced a chunk out of my hand when changing out tires or removing them for wheel maintenance.

There has got to be a better solution???

Without seeing what you have, can you slice a piece of rubber hose and put if over the edge and "glue" it. RTV silicone adhesive would work very well.

Rubber car-door edge guard, available from nearly any auto parts store in 8' or 16' lengths.

Better Idea than working with a hose.

Thanks. Don't know why I didn't think of the car door edge stuff. Just ordered a 32' roll on Amazon for $10.

Leather Gloves are also a nice option, as you are moving nasty tires around anyway. I like using my welding gloves as they go up my forearms, and help reduce cuts if there are steel belts involved in the blowout or if it really hot like here in AZ right now..

Forgot to add, I dont use a lug or star wrech anymore for tires. Just keep a cordless Rigid 1/2" drive impact, charged batt, and a lug nut socket set with a couple various extensions. So much quicker and easier. Don't even have to break the lugs before lifting off the ground.

I just installed clear edge guard on my unit two axel 3200. I used 12 foot for both fender skirts. Hardest part was mitering the corners.w

I crawled around underneath and folded over every 'slicer' corner on the lower fascia. I used my angle grinder on the wheel well slicers. No problems after that. We have the earlier style happi-jac garage beds so no head slicers on that.

Something like this might work on the fenders
