Powder Coat a Reese 22.5K?

We’ve had this hitch since our Voltage 3800 was new, in 2015.
It’s starting to rust around the base and rail pin areas, so we’re considering having it powder-coated, to restore it to new, and to prevent future rust.
Q: Has anyone else done this, and how did you find someone to do it?

I believe that it is not cost effective to do

Sell it on Craigslist’s and get a Andersen ultimate hitch

Your back will thank you

We also have a 2015 Reese hitch that needed a freshen up. Contacted Reese on four separate occasions to get a decal kit. Needless to say never were received. I agree with selling the Reese on Craigslist. We’re doing the same and going to a B&W Companion. I’ll never buy a Reese product every again.

Generally, manufacturers will not sell brand or safety instruction decals to consumers. They don't trust you will put them only on the correct products. They may allow certain body shops or service shops to do the job.

I have not done this to a 5th wheel hitch, however, I have tried various amateur methods of refinishing things like this.

You need an prime coat to stabilize the steel surface. There are different treatments. I have been using Kem Kromik Universal Metal Primer. Sherwin Williams sells it. It is often used to paint steel bridges.

You can overcoat it with any high quality finish coat. I have used high gloss oil and latex paints. It has been rock solid even when exposed to road salt.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead!

I guess that may be true but Reese never said I couldn’t get the decal set. As a matter of fact, every time I contacted them they said that they would get them out to me for free, just never followed through.
As far as repainting a hitch, mask off all safety decals, make sure to sand thoroughly, apply a high quality primer and paint.
