On The Road

Today is the day. Pulling out and heading to Florida for the next five or six months. No more Chicago winters! Other than a two week trip to Sturgis this summer and a few short weekend shake downs, this is our first real trip, and the reason why we bought our unit. Pretty much packed and loaded. Just need to finish shutting the house down and then load up the two cats (riding with the wife who will follow in the Wrangler) and the dog (with me in the dually). On hte road by 9am I hope. Very excited. While I've been quasi-retired for 8 years, the wife just retired 6 months ago. We've been talking and planning our road retirement for 4 years now. Life is good. Aaron, Pirate, ATC Guy, Donzinger, and Cale and the rest of you seasoned guys; stay on line! I'm sure I'll need your help down the road. Take care,
Rusty

Where in FL are you going? We have a house in JAX and stop there when able, but haven't in a while since my mom is in it now...

Some folks behind us left last week for FL, they stay in MD from May to October, then FL the rest of the time...

Wife and I were actually talking about our fist big road trip when I retire...will try to save up 60 days for terminal leave...roll up to Alaska, since my retirement aligns itself with summer. Kids will be out of school and hopefully I will be between jobs.

What is this "retirement" stuff you guys are talking about?

I have worked in FL and can't see wanting to live there. I did live in the Sarasota area for a couple of years when I was a kid. Been back several times to various parts and it isn't anywhere I want to stay long. I will be down there in February for a conference then outthedoordowntheroad.

We are weighing options for a different RV right now, most of it will be based on whether my bride can go back to work or not after being out for 18 months on an OJI. One plan we are weighing is getting a diesel pusher and locating in an area for a couple of weeks at a time for my jobs, then moving to another one for a couple of weeks, then home for a couple more. I already have permission to put a tow bar on the company car, good news is it will tow four down, as will our personal car. We shall see. BTW that would mean going to FL... we have contracts on 2-3 jobs down there starting late this year, early next. Right now we are trying to wrap up all our northern and midwest projects before winter sets in.

Sounds great currently in Morgan hill, Cali and will be heading over to ano Nuevo state park on highway 1 25 miles north of Santa Cruz. The weather look great around 70 during week. Off to Borrego Springs, ca after the first of the year. Weather very much like Palm Springs without the crowds. Yippee

West Palm Beach Cale. I like the Jacksonville/St. Augustine, Daytona area. Go there all the time on the bike. A little cool for me for the winter. I want shorts and sandals! I agree with you wahoonc regarding Florida from April thru October. Pretty hard to beat November thru April though. Next year we'll try out west. If I win the lottery, we'll try San Diego area. If anyone heads south toward the Keys, look us up, cocktails on us.
