Looking for Ideas to Secure a Heavy Tool Cart in the Garage

Does it need to be moved at all once put in place? You could remove the wheels and mount directly to the floor, then use a web strap when on the road for side to side or swaying movement.

I got rid of my tool box and use a snazzy setup from DeWalt. I have five boxes, they mount to a dolly cart, and all come apart enough to go into the basement or generator bay.

Already have one... but to store the tools there, I'd have to buy 6 or 7 smaller boxes to keep them all organized & such. Besides, I've already got stuff in the box.

True, my sons are grown... but they were trained well.

The oldest is an engineer who loves his tools like me... and if anything, has a more orderly collection than mine. The youngest is a nerd (his term, he embraces it) still in school working on his PhD in economics... and has no love, care, or desire to work on anything with his hands.

Ha you are so right! Like someone else said, with a Wing, you only need those tools to help us HD riders broken down on the side of the road. My brother and I have ridden a ton; 49 states and both have over a hundred thousand on our bikes. I think he broke down once. My HD with a hundred and forty thousand? I have to take my shoes off to count!

Hell just buy a low rise tool body... I used to tow my 5'ver with an F350 with a custom tool body on it. The body looked stock but the sides opened up. I can't for the life of me remember the brand, but it was built in Texas.

Well... finally completed the project today, and this is what I've ended up with for transport:




I've got the top chest ratchet-strapped to the tool cart base, so it isn't going anywhere. After rolling the whole thing into position, I marked the places where I wanted to place the chocks... drilled the holes... and then secured them with ⅜" lag screws into the floor.




As for securing it against front-to-rear tip-over... initially I thought I may have found a decent anchor area above the sliding glass door enclosure.

So I secured an eye bolt into the wall, and ran a ratchet strap between it... over the box... and into one of the tie-downs in the floor. After pulling tension on the strap, it became apparent that doing so wasn't a good idea. It's pretty solid, and I'm sure I'll use it for something else... but not for the kind of tension or weight that we've got going here.




So I went back to the original suggestion y'all made... which was to use the tie-downs already in the floor, and come up & over the box with the strap.




It all seems to be pretty solid, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I take the rig out for a test run.

Unless you do a short field take off in your Ford I don't think you'll dump the box over.
I've forgotten to tighten the straps on my box and it was where I left it when I hit the road.
