Jack HDTV Antenna

When our Voltage 3950 arrived at the dealer last year, it had a broken boom antenna. So, the first thing for me was to put a Jack HDTV antenna in its place. Now almost everywhere we go I seem to get more foreign channels than local channels. Even at our home which is about 40 miles south of DC, I pick up Japan, Tokyo and others. No local channels!

Is this normal or is it just mine?

Moto - my Jack works very well for me - so well, in fact, I replaced my home over the air antenna with one.

So.... Is there something that I could be doing wrong? Almost seems as if it is too strong.

I would have to go look at mine but I believe there is a "gain dial" on it - I'm sure it is called something more techincal. But I believe you can turn down the amplified signal there - watch the power meter (the LEDs) when you turn in and they should go up/down. I want to say the label calls it an "attenuator".

Not sure if you have the owners manual or not, but it gives a very brief description on setting the attenuator. I normally run mine all the way to the high side with no issues.

Thanks! I did not have the manual, I too have always run at full boost. Maybe that's why.

I have tried turning the antenna to get a lessor signal but I would just loose tv channels

Which way are you pointing it? It should be pointed with the open end of the V towards the signal source. Apparently, many people don't read the manual, and don't realize that.

I point the arrow on the handle if I know where the station is located, otherwise I follow the idiot lights on the dial.

That's what I look at "Idiot lights"! Most of the places we go, I have no idea where the stations are. We are usually close to a city and that is why I am surprised we don't get a local signal. Places like Charlotte NC, Bristol TN, Atlanta GA, Redding PA and live near DC.

I will follow the adjustment in the manual and see what happens.
