Mine is the same. Very tight. My wife hates it but I sorta like it that way.

Mine were the same way. I just worked some good synthetic lube and kept working the step back and forth. They loosened up enough to make more functional and the wife does not need to battle them. At the same time, I am not worried about them popping out.
Maintain them with the dry lube that you use one your slides.

Hmmm...I think my wife (er, BOSS) likes them stiff and hard to pull out...then its always my job to open them...LOL!!!

I've just thought that over time they will wear away paint or a little metal in the joints and then open smoothly. We're just not using ours enough, yet, to get them "worn in".

Here is the answer to loosening the stiff stairs. Just add a couple drops of this amazing stuff to each of the stair joints and open and close it several times.

This stuff is amazing, I use it on everything that moves. I keep a container in the Voltage. It only takes a drop or two to work. Well worth the small price.

My stairs were very stiff also, a little WD seemed to help, for a while and then I'd have to repeat. I probably need to try one of the better quality lubricants recommended.

Another problem I had with my rear stairs, that I brought on myself. I would give the stairs a "little" kick during my walk around to make sure they were stowed, Sometimes this would knock the joint pins below the bottom L bar bracing and the stairs would lock close. They wouldn't open "period."

I'd have to crawl up underneath the stairs and pry the L bar brace back to free the joint pins so DW could pull them open from up top.

DW calls me Iron Fingers, one many affectionate nicknames, I didn't realized it extended to my toes? I don't kick'em no more!!!
