Gvw of the voltage toy haulers

Why are the voltage haulers only rated at 20000 gvw?

Does anyone have one with g rated tires from the factory? If so what is gvw rating ?

I think they used to be 21k, 2013 or 2012. However, I think the weak link may be the Trail Air hitch?? I know when we bought ours, there was another 3950 with a Trail air that said 21k.

I looked at my trail air hitch and it says 21000. I am thinking the tires are the weak link. They are only rated at 3250 per tire.

You're forgetting pin weight. 3250 times 6 tires is 19,500; plus 3500 to 4000 or so on the pin puts the GVW over 23,000. I'll bet the lawyers have something to do with the GVWR.

Yep, taking into account tires (or axle weights - 7k each), we could go way over 20k...nearly 20%. However, I am guessing the frame was spec'ed to a certain weight and that is what Lippert made for Dutchmen (Keystone).

My V3605 has a gvwr of 16,500, which is strange, it is only a tandem 7k axle unit, and any commercial trailer I pull, gooseneck or low deck equipment trailer, the ratings are based on the axles, my tri-axle gooseneck has 7k axles and the manufacturers plate says gvwr is 21,000lbs. What gives??? Does the Rv industry fall under different dot rules that allows them to add weight to the hitch, and my gooseneck maker is not? or should I just add 15% gvwr to my gooseneck and pull loads scaling in at 24,150lbs?

Yes indeed. Our 3305 is a tandem rated at 16,500 GVWR with 7K lb axles too. I had all the springs fail and ground off the outside edge of the tires on the first long trip hauling only a 900 lb golf cart in the garage. I had foolishly believed the unit we bought was actually able to carry the load it is rated for. I added an extra leaf to each spring pack after the springs were all replaced and G rated tires. So far all is well after the trip to Florida. Hoping the problem is resolved for good. Yes Keystone, I’m still angry about it.

It is all a numbers game. I would trust the equipment trailers long before I would trust numbers from Dutchmen and quite a few other RV manufacturers. They have a tendency to stretch the truth... quite a bit.

How about the opposite. My Voltage 3895 has three 7k axles, but the GVWR is only 19,000lbs. I don't personally believe there is a mandate or agreement regarding a "standard". I've had many utility trailers and a few other campers. Sometimes the GVWR includes only what the axle(s) is rated to, sometimes an additional 10% or more. I could be wrong, but my experience has shown this to be pretty inconsistent across the "industry".

My Teton has 2 7k axles & GVWR is 14,995 Voltage is 16,500, oh and the Tetons brakes & drums are larger. Our low deck trailer at work has 2 12k axles & is rated at 25,999. They derated it to save us on Federal tax. It had been 30k.

My Voltage has a Dutchman sticker with a 10/13 manufacture date and 19,000 lbs listed as the GVW.

I remember just a few months after I bought it I saw the identical year/make/model as my trailer with a Keystone manufacture sticker listing 20,000 lbs as the GVW???

I checked mind today, and it showed 20k for my 3895, I was going to replace my Westlake tires with Carliste, but they didn't have 6 so I changed to Sailum S-637, and they are rated G 3950lbs, so that gives me more then 20k, but maybe the frame is rated at 20k??
