Feedback Please

We are picking up our 2016 3970 tomorrow. I love the plan so I have... overlooked the negative Voltage reviews. I know people typically post the negative; I am hoping that is the case. Any feedback is appreciated. It's a big purchase and I am shaking in my shoes.

As long as you perform a thorough PDI and make sure the dealership repairs any issues that are found BEFORE you sign the paperwork, you can go ahead and get your new rig.

Here is a link to a very good PDI

Given that you're picking up your rig tomorrow, other than PDI as has been mentioned, the best recommendation I can give you is STOP SECOND GUESSING YOURSELF! It is what it is.

BTW, congratulations.

First and foremost: Congratulations!

Our Voltage 3905 and Ram 3500 is our first truck/trailer. We knew we went big right off the bat, and felt overwhelmed wondering what the heck we got into. But only at first. After 3 seasons learning to operate it - and mostly just enjoying it! - we could not be happier with our choice. Sure we've had a few mechanical issues (like any other brand will have) but we've worked thru them. These are big machines with a lot of moving parts, so "stuff" will happen.

Ok, the feedback... The PDI rec has been made above; I echo that loudly. Also, the #1 lesson I had to learn was: resist the urge to feel "entitled to perfection in these rigs, 'cuz look how much I paid for it, gosh dang it!" Get comfortable "turning a screwdriver" to handle any fix you can yourself (not withstanding major items that take you out of your comfort zone, especially those under warranty). But minimize your dependency on a dealership to make repairs, to minimize the time you lose to use your rig. Dealers can take weeks to schedule you in for repairs, and then can take even longer to actually make them. When (and probably not if) you do need "professional" help, find a dealer you trust and has good capability to do good work... and keep a good relationship with them. I'd agree this forum mostly serves us when we have problems looking for solutions (me included!) Good news is aired less. So my guess is the overall satisfaction of Volty owners is higher than what's represented by the overall types of posts here.

To finish where I started: Congratulations! And enjoy!

Probably the best response to an introductory post yet. Nicely said mikesnider!

Take it camping and make a list of issues/problems. How handy are you? I chose to fix most of the issues with our 3600 rather than returning to the dealer. This way I got to know my trailer and learned how things work.

We did the same thing....bought a Voltage despite the negative reviews... I think if you steered away from an RV with negative reviews, you probably would not own one...or just end up in a tent.

We have had a handful of problems, but we live in ours and have about 12k miles on her. The only thing keeping us in place right now is a finicky slide, which I will have repaired sometime this winter and we will be mobile again.

If not handy, learn to be handy, lots of folks here to help.

Good luck and enjoy!

Cale

Thank you for the link for the PDI. It was very helpful We did a 2.5 hours walk through and noted a few things that they need to repair. Mostly cosmetic stuff. Everything was working just fine. The full effect of the length is something to behold once you are standing next to it!!!! We did bring it home, we also had our bottle of champagne. We are so excited!!!! The dealership has been amazing in all areas so we are confident that they will provide the service to get the things fixed. We actually traveled 2 hours for our Voltage when there is one sitting 15 minutes away because of the service. Our maiden voyage is postponed for a bit, but we can not wait!!! Thankfully one of us is very handy, and it's not me. mikesnider, your post was awesome!!! calewjohnson, you are absolutely right. If we went off of all of the negative comments, we wouldn't have our "beast". AGAIN!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement.

That's what we like to hear......I have been RVing for 20 years, From Truck Campers to my 3895, In all those RVs, I only had one bad one, that had everything going bad, from the roof to doors opening as your driving,,,,,,I do most of my repairs, and we love RVing, yes things will go bad with all the miles we put on, Thanks to the great roads we have lately in the US, Just enjoy camping, and the sights, that you will remember...by the way, we love the views in Utah...

That's great, hope we can get back there soon, we liked Zion and Arches the best, we got rained out, the day we went to Bryce Canyon....We then went up to Yellowstone National Park, but you will enjoy going anywhere...

I know I'm jumping in late, but I want to offer my encouragement. The wife and I have a 2015 3970 and love it. Great floor plan, and while we've had a few small issues, nothing I couldn't overcome. We haul two big Harleys in it. We've had it to Yellowstone, down to Florida, and up in Pennsylvania. Going to Southern Cali in January and the Pacific Northwest in summer. I don't know what you're pulling it with (I missed it if you said what your TV is) but our 2013 F-350 6.7L TD dually handles it well. We have a 20k# B&W hitch. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Jeff

Like Rich I also like Zion & Arches NP in Utah. Lost track of how many times I've been to Zion N.P. Canyon Lands NP is another great place to visit.

JandCinKC, thanks for "jumping in late ". Everyone has been so helpful. I have to ask how your trip through Yellowstone was? That is one of our most favorite places to visit and now we have pretty accepted that we will have to camp outside of the park with this "monster". We are carrying a CamAm in the back. Our TV is a F450 DRW. It is handling it like a dream. We looked at so many plans, and the 3970 really seems like it will fit all of our needs once we are fulltimers.

Everydayrvr,
Like you, we've come to accept that there are places a rig this big can't go - it's about 62' nose to tail for us with a supercab. We traveled from the east on I-90 to Bozeman, then south to West Yellowstone. We stayed at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone, about a quarter mile from the West Park entrance, then spent full days in the park, sometimes with the bikes, more often with the truck. One of the tradeoffs of a rig with the creature comforts and roominess of a 3970 is limited access, especially to in-park campsites.
