Electric Valves

Question/Heads up.

I purchased 3 Valterra electric dump valves back in December 2016, I only replaced the two front valves as they were both stuck and would not operate as most of us have seen. When I installed the valves I instantly had one of the switches quit working (during the testing after install, maybe 5 cycles) I reached out to Amazon as that's where I purchased the valves and they sent me a new switch. I replaced the switch and have fallen in love with the valves, they are easy, clean, and quick. Yesterday when we hit the dump station the other valve quit working, I hit my switch, it lit up but the valve didn't operate. So when we got home I pulled the belly open and found i have electric like i'm supposed to at the valve but apparently the motor has quit. I was able to manually bypass the valve and open it, which left me to using my old faithful twist on valve and bucketing the weekends fun into my septic tank! (of course the black tank valve is the one that quit) As all of you know I need one more item to service on a 6 month basis like I need another hole in my head.

Question how many of you have had success with the Valterra valves and for how long? Did I just get a bad batch? Have any of you used any other brand? what are your success rates on them?

I have not replaced the 3rd valve yet as it's not been a problem, other then climbing under my slide to grab the valve. I'm thinking long and hard about finding another brand and returning the unused 3rd Valterra.

On a side note, I did call Valterra and they are replacing the valve no questions asked. I was super happy with the customer support as this type of outcome doesn't typically go my way without a battle.

I've had the Valterras on for one full season now with no issues and I think Pirate has had his on for two and have heard no complaints from him. There is another brand out there that appears popular that another forum member has installed but I cannot recall the name of the member or the brand right off the top - maybe he will chime in...

I have not heard of wide spread failures of electric valves. Sounds like you may have gotten a couple from a bad batch. Where are the Valterra made? Another reputable brand is Barker, they are made in the USA and sell repair parts for their valves. I have used them in the past with no problems.

The valves are made in Mexico.. I did pull the old and put in the new last night, on a good note I've pretty much mastered the whole valve changing thing. I just hate opening and closing the belly. Fingers crossed the two existing are good and when install the last one it actually holds up and is good.

Are both brands compatible with current valves. Or will I have to pull under belly and pull measurements. I have a V-3950. Thx

Would like to know if you guys had to change the plumbing connections when adding you valve. It appears I have the Bristol valves on my V-3605 which apparently are not inter changeable.

I currently have the belly cover of and I trying to get the bathroom gray valve to seal.

I had somebody change mine, but I recall reading here on the forum about breaking some tabs off the Valterra valves to retrofit and make them work. I had both Valterra and Bristol valves factory installed. Go figure. Hope this helps.

I did my first one myself with no problem. No grinding just a small flat file to knock off the corner of 2 ends. Cant make any structural difference, I only shaved off maybe 1/8" at the most. I tried to take pic but too dark and didn't come out.
