Awning Struts

Looking to see if anyone has replaced the gas struts on their Carefree awnings. Mine are in need of replacing (awning moves slow, the struts are loud, and the rear needs help every once in a while). The right strut is a Carefree part number of R001252 (for the awnings that can change pitch). Curious if anyone has used a strut from the auto store (NAPA, AutoZone, etc) to replace them. Looking for a cheaper alternative with a better warranty.

I have not replaced mine... yet. However struts are pretty generic. I would check the strut itself for a manufacturer number that could be cross referenced. The main criteria for struts are: Length (open and closed), type of connection and pounds of pressure.

Thanks. I know the struts are 43inches opened, closed is a quick pull with the tape measure. My numbers are gone on all my struts, no clue on the pound rating.

85-pound struts are what Carefree sells...

Here's a link where we discussed this last year:

Thanks, saw that thread, didn't see the strut rating. Just hate spending $200 on struts that are probably the same as the ones at NAPA....just different packaging.

Am I reading this correctly? Does this new strut change the pitch if the awning. I would love to change the pitch of my awnings. With them being flat, when there is a little rain it piles up on the awning until it randomly decides to dump (sometime on someone). If the pitch could be changed then the rain would roll off the end of the awning like a roof.

Most, if not all, of our Voltages came with adjustable awnings. Check page 4 of the following link:

Thanks ATCguy. That is very helpful. I am almost certain that I remember seeing those adjusting holes on my awning and wondering if they would change the pitch. I will check in a few days but this helps a lot. Thanks thanks thanks.

I owned mine for over a year before I realized that it pitched. Only found out when the Carefree Rep asked if my model pitched or not, then he had to explain to me....

I have to admit that I did not notice those holes either, friend of mine on our last trip showed me the adjustments.
