Awning question

Just really got into looking at the awnings. Lets say the don't retract... how would you get them in. Honestly, I've never seen awnings like these. They're pop riveted to the side wall including the gas shocks. I'm sure they're good for a lifetime no need to replace and maintenence free...

Thanks for your responses.

Let me tell you from experience what is great about this new style of awning. On a Jayco trailer I owned with a Carefree awning, I don't know if the Voltage awning is a Carefree but it looks very similar, the bottom of the arm has pins that slide up and down the rail. I had left mine out when a thunderstorm passed and in the heavy wind the pins popped out of the rail allowing the awning to blow up on to the roof. I was then able to pull it back down and pop the pins back into the rail without any damage to the arms or fabric.

There is a video somewhere that shows adding an external power supply to the motor head as a temporary measure to retract the awning. This doesn't help with a dead motor so you have raised a question to research and ponder.

With our trailer there was a kit included for bringing in the awning (Carefree) if the power failed for whatever reason.

Let's see it!!! I have a 'thing' that I store in the refrigerator that is supposed to do something if something doesn't work but I haven't figured it out yet.

Sure, I keep it in the refrigerator so I don't misplace it because I don't know what it does. Also, I rarely throw anything away in the refrigerator, really.

I saw the kit you refer to in a bag along with the carefree operating manual. One end had alligator clips but I don't seem to recall what the connection was on the other end.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing something like that in my bag of swag so I took a look and found two of those.

But that's not what I keep in the refrigerator because I don't know what it does.

Wire and clips above. Used in case if a faulty switch. The wire is to be used to jump out directly to the battery in case if switch failure. Unhook current power to awning. Attach clips to what looks like rivets and pray it is the switch and not the motor itself.

The jumper is a nice gesture but how many folks can reach the motor housing from the roof?

I'd jump the switch in the switch panel before I'd haul out a battery and a step ladder.

I've been thinking this thing through as well. You know with these back up systems like this awning thing and schwinteck slide motors.... what are these people thinking. I'll bet with these awnings it will be a motor failure before a power failure. ?. But I could be wrong, anyway make sure we all carry tall enough ladders to address that. What happens with the motors disengaged look out for that... have an air mattress on the ground when it knocks you off your perch.

As for the slides get to know your neighbors and there friends when that motor failure occurs. From recent post, it appears you'll need help. Im not trying to be negitive please understand. I'm just trying to come up with a plan C. I've been in Titusville Florida for the past 20 days and leaving tomorrow headed back to Tennessee.

For the most part alls been good exception the water pump.

You make some valid points. Hopefully I don't have to deal with them anytime soon!

Dave.
