Adding 3rd A/C Unit???

Howdy,

I have a 3200 with two A/Cs, one 15k that's ducted and one 15k over the garage....kind of weird. I use the rig in 100 degree plus temps so I'd like to add a 3rd A/C in the bedroom, a 13.5k. Currently there's a Fantastic Fan in that position. Do you think the area is prepped and framed to hold up an A/C unit from the factory?

Will I need a different converter? I read the option sheet that the 3 A/C units have a 'load management system'. Not sure what that is, but is it something I should look into if I put in another A/C?

Thanks for the replies.

Sam

Yes it will hold the weight of an A/C. But is your 3200 wired to operate all 3 A/C at the same time? I'm pretty sure you won't have the electrical amperage capacity to run all three A/C compressors at the same time. I have three A/C and a manger to switch the compressors on and off so that only two are running at one time.

If you pull down the ceiling flange you may be able to find the romex where the front vent is pre wired for an AC.

If this is connected to the panel would be the question. On shore power you have plenty of amps to run three ACs, however, your generator can only handle two and most units are wired to protect the generator.

Dutchman uses a load management system to automatically coordinate between three ACs. Other manufactures use a switch where you have to manually switch between only two at a time, the main & front or main & rear.

If you're adding a third AC without the load management you should add a switch to control power between the garage or front AC. If your trailer wasn't wired from the factory for the load management system I don't think an after market installation is a practical or affordable option.

Hmm. Good info. I was thinking of a manual temp control unit, but if there were control wires, that might be alright. There is no thermostat though.

As far as load management goes, I would leave the garage unit off if using the front two. How does the factory wire up the load management system? Is it pretty complicated and doesn't just stay in the basement? There doesn't seem to be an industry standard on much with wiring.

Oh, standard vent openings work for non ducted A/CS? I've had the ducted one off for the retape, but can't remember the size.

Thanks again!

I always wonder why some toyhauler had a a/c in the garage area but not in the bedroom. My V3605 has the 13.5 option in the bedroom. Makes a world of difference when camping in 100 + temperatures.

Standard vent size works just fine for the non-ducted a/c. That's how mine is mounted

Check out this post for some ideas on installing a bedroom AC if it isn't pre-wired...

2nd AC install
