Question 3990 Outside radio remote unit

We've had our 3990 for two months now and we still can't get the outside remote control unit to actually control the radio from outside. I can't find anything in the manuals to help and no one at the dealer's service department knows how to get it to work. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? The answer we only ever seem to get is "it should just work". Thanks.

Elisabeth

I have two remotes for the garage radio. One is marked Sony X169.

The other one is a litte critter that looks like a bug. Very simple, no markings and only 8 colored buttons on it.

Now, the strange thing is the Sony remote is IR and doesn't have any effect on the radio or DVD. The bug looking remote is RF and operates the radio but it doesn't have buttons to address the DVD player in the radio.

Upon further investigation I've found the IR Sony remote does have some effect on the radio function. I didn't bother with a DVD but I'm sure it'll work with the remote.

It would appear the radio is both RF and IR, the RF remote for exterior use and the IR for use in the garage to manipulate the DVD player.

Look for the bug looking remote, it's probably in a bag somewhere where the other five or six remotes were.

I have a Sony. The remote wasn't plugged into the back of the head unit, I just pulled it out and plugged it in...good to go.
