160 Gallon Fresh Water Capacity in 2015 Voltage 3800?

I’ve never been able to get 160 gallons in or out of my fresh tank, more like about 100 max. I heard (in the FB forum) that we actually have TWO fresh water tanks? 80 gal each, and one feeds the other? And air can get trapped, preventing the ‘inner’ one from filling? Anyone else heard this?

Another side-effect is that the pump won’t stop running, as if it can’t completely pressure up. Trapped air would explain this also. Has anyone else encountered and solved this? I can’t seem to ‘burp’ it completely, and have checked and bled all the valves repeatedly. 🤔

Yes, you should have 2 separate fresh water tanks. Here’s a schematic from my Voltage 3200:

Thanks ATC! - Have you ever had an issue getting both filled? I seem to have an air pocket and could only get about 90 gallons in before it started spitting back. And, the pump won’t shut off, although I’ve been bleeding and burping to no avail. Have you tried the inner fill hose method using a 1/2” 10’ hose inserted in the fresh fill? I saw that hint in one of the manuals ..

Yeah, I've read about those hints too. According to my meter, I've never been able to put more than about 60 gals into my tanks before water begins squirting back thru the inlet. I think I tried burping it once, but didn't have anywhere near the amount of ½" hose needed.

That said, it's never really bothered me much. I rarely boondock. In the 8 years of owning the rig, I think I've only ever dry-camped 3 or 4 times... and even then it was only for a single overnight stay someplace (Rest Area, Wal-Mart, etc).

So when I travel, I never try to fill the tanks, as I don't want the weight. I just usually make sure I've got about 20-25 gals of fresh water for those occasions when I have a need, but don't wanna use a public bathroom ... or should I need to clean up after dealing with a mechanical issue on the road, I'll have enough for a decent shower.

Once I get to the campground... if I'm going to be staying longer than a day or 2... that's when I usually fill the fresh water tank as much as I can, just in case there's an issue with the park water getting shut off for maintenance or some other issue... then I've still got water.

As for the pump... no, I've never had any issues with my pump not supplying water to the rig when I needed it. It has always worked as advertised.

I blew pressurized air into my vent line once after correcting the “hump” in my fill line and still getting full tanks. Air rushed out of the vent line for quite some time and I took on allot of water. Didn’t have a way to gage the amount but I would guess close to the advertised 160 Gallons as I could feel the extra weight and we stayed at a race track for and extended period of time without refilling one time with plenty drained out on the trip home.

160 gallons of water = 1,328 lbs.

Bingo! That did it! 😎 cleared the vent line, and a TON of air burped out!

Glad to hear that worked - forgot where I read that, but saw it a couple of years ago (most likely on this forum) and worked like a charm for me. Happy camping!

So, just in case I ever wanna do this... let me understand the process:

You’re simply filling your fresh water tank as far as you can... and then, when it won’t take anymore, shoot compressed air into the vent line, correct? Then when you stop, wait for the air to escape, and then continue filling?

I use a meter like this on my hose to know exactly how much water I’m putting in... so I may try it once the weather warms up enough here, just to see how much I can get in there.

Yessir! I use the same meter. Used to. I measured once and was not too accurate. Maybe yours is

I have that meter too and it seems pretty accurate. Yes the process we used to ‘burp’ the tank (today I got the other 70 gallons in, and now see 4 red leds for the fresh indicator for the first time!) is to take a 6” piece of black 1/2” tubing, place it flat as possible over the vent screen (make sure the screen is clean, poke it out if needed) and blow a lungfull of air into it. You may feel it ‘clear’ and, then get the big burp! 😎

I should have mentioned that I do not used compressed air when I clear the vent line. No telling what might happen then!

Glad you got it cleared up.

I use that same meter to be able to tell how much water I put in the black tank after I flush it.

When I fill my tank I have a couple plastic straws with a little electrical tape on the end so it fits snug in the vent hole. Every 5 minutes or so I just give it a little blow into the vent hole so it doesn’t fill with water and the tanks will fill all the way every time. Just make sure air is coming out the hole and it’ll fill
